Spencer Reid x ReaderÂ
Warnings: Violence, swearing, mentions of rape
Spencer clenched his fists to keep his hands from shaking. âWhat do you mean never see her again? Donât you dare fucking touch her-â
âTsk, tsk Doctor, there is a lady present. Though she canât hear us at the moment.â The voice murmured condescendingly. âBut I am a fair man Doctor, I will let you speak to her, eventually.âÂ
âLet me speak to her now.â Spencer growled.Â
âSo demanding Doctor, but I suppose Iâll oblige you, if only because she looks so broken right now.â The voice cooed.Â
There was silence on the phone for a moment, the beeping of buttons and then, your voice.Â
âWhat do you want now you sick bastard?â You sounded tired, defeated. Spencer felt his heart break.Â
â(Y/N), can you hear me?â Spencer asked urgently. On the live feed, you head shot up and looked around.Â
âSpencer?â Your voice broke and tears blurred your vision. âAm I dreaming?â
âNo, no! Iâm coming to find you baby. I promise, this sick bastard is not going to win-â Spencer said encouragingly.
Hope filled your eyes, but quickly disappeared behind nerves. You had to tell him the last place you were. He had to find you and you didnât know how much time you had left.Â
âSpence, I made it to Florida, call the hotel I was at. They might have security footage-â Your voice was cut off.Â
âNow, thatâs no fair. She canât help you.â The voice said angrily.Â
âNo, put her back on the line you sick f-â Spencer yelled into the phone desperately. He could see that you were still talking on the video feed. Tears slid down his face as he watched you mouth âI love you.â You didnât even know that he couldnât hear you anymore.Â
â24 hours doctor.â The voice said and hung up. The live feed went black.
âItâs a burner phone. I could triangulate it to two cell towers, but that could put it anywhere in Miami.â Penelope explained.
The room was silent as they waited for Spencerâs reaction. His shoulders were tense, he still eyed the screen, his back completely turned to the team.Â
âSpencer?â JJ asked, gently coming up to him.Â
âJJ, Iâm going to give you the number to (Y/N) hotel. I need you to get any security footage you can from them. Penelope will use face scan and analyze it.â Spencer ordered, his body still tense and unmoving.Â
âIâll contact them and the local police down there, have them start looking for (Y/N)Â and set up a place for us at their precinct.â JJ reassured.Â
âIâm going to call Hotch and Rossi, Iâll tell them to meet us at the jet.â Emily said. âMaybe they got something out of Curtis that can help us out.âÂ
Spencer nodded, unable to form words around the tightness in his throat.Â
âWeâll get her back Reid, and then we want a proper introduction.â Morgan teased, trying to ease Spencer.Â
As they all began to move to grab their go-bags, Spencerâs phone rang again.
Spencer took a deep breath, as he glanced at his phone. It was Avaâs contact.Â
He quickly answered it. âAva?âÂ
âSpencer,â Her voice sounded terrified. âI need you to come to this address, I think (Y/N)âs in danger.â
You jumped as the door to your âroomâ slammed open.Â
âYou stupid bitch!â The voice wasnât as deep now without itâs automated assistance, but his voice was still muffled behind a mask. It was a cheap plastic Halloween mask, the one you get so you can decorate it however you want. Itâs blank white stare covered his whole face.Â
He stalked his way toward you angrily, causing you to push yourself further back onto the bed. There was no place for you to go.Â
âYou just couldnât keep your mouth shut huh? You are so moon eyed over your Doctor that you fucking cheat. You whore!â He grabbed your ankles and pulled on your chains, dragging you down the bed, causing you to scream. His grip was hard enough to leave bruises.Â
âDo you know what happens to whores?â He growled. âThey get what they deserve.âÂ
He tried to push your legs open, but you clawed at his arms, hard enough to break your nails and draw blood. As he tried to draw his arms back, you scratched at his face, ripping the mask off and catching one of his eyes.
He let out a pained scream and backhanded you across the face. You yelped as it sent you flying back against the bed.
You quickly pushed yourself up, readying yourself if he tried to advance on you again. He was hunched over, grabbing at his face, blood leaked from where your nails had dug in.Â
âIt wasnât supposed to go this way.â He said enraged.Â
Your body froze at that voice. A voice that you knew all too well. A voice that didnât speak much, but when it did, there was always a smile on his face.Â
Andrew Curtis, 29 years old, 6â4. Auburn hair, brown eyes, and a friendly smile that had made women trust him when he had come into their home.Â
The man in front of him was smug, too smug for someone who is going to be behind bars for the rest of their life. Hotch wished he could tackle him to the floor and wipe the gleeful look off of his face.Â
5 innocent women, almost 6. Women with families and lives just wiped from the world because of the sick bastard in front of him.Â
âOh Agent Hotchner, Agent Rossi, what brings you to my humble abode? Iâve recently redecorated, I hope you like it.â Andrew Curtis laughed.Â
Hotch and Rossi didnât deign to respond, hiding their disdain behind a stern blank mask.Â
âOuch, so cold as always, here I was hoping something interesting happened for you to come visit me.â Curtis said with a pout.Â
âRumor has it youâve been receiving letters from an outside anonymous fan, care to enlighten us more about him?â Rossi said, voice cold.Â
âNot even a greeting, a little catch up? How is the rest of the team, Prentiss, JJ,- oh and my dear favorite doctor Reid.â Curtis purred.
âI did always find your connection to Reid fascinating, you only let him talk with you and a little bird told us you keep newspaper clippings about him and much of his thesis and research work.â Rossi pushed, ignoring Curtisâs taunts.
âOh my guards are such gossips, but I suppose there's not much else to keep them entertained around here.â
Hotch let out a growl. âLetâs skip the games Curtis. You know you have nothing over us, youâre locked here for the rest of your miserable existence and then some. We will not be your source of entertainment. Who have you been communicating with?â
âYou know, I never thought you guys would catch me, and it truly took a toll on me when you did. But I had a small victory knowing that you had gotten some of my profile wrong.â Curtis smiled and it made ice fill Hotchâs veins.
âOh and how is our profile wrong? Youâre still in a cell arenât you? Everything we said turned out to be correct.â Rossi said confidently.
âYou might have profiled me correctly dear Rossi, but I am afraid you missed a small crucial detail.â Curtis hummed proudly.Â
âAnd what would that detail be.â Hotch urged.Â
âThe kind that costs ya Hotchner. Maybe a nicer cell, with a little less security.â
Hotch and Rossi exchanged a look. Could it be worth it?Â
Hotch dipped his chin in agreement. Yes, if only for Reid.
âWe will see what we can do.â Rossi said slowly.
A smug look crossed Curtisâs face as he leaned back in his chair, satisfied. He looked like the cat that got the cream and the male Agents across from him hated it. âAllow me to let you divine profilers know, that you were wrong and that you might have caught me, but you did not catch my prodigy.â His victorious laugh bounced off the walls, grating the tense room.
âYour prodigy?â Hotch probed, his voice dangerously low, a sign that he would explode if he wasnât careful. Rossi gave him a side glance, an attempt to remind Hotch to keep a steady head.Â
âOh yes, itâs a thrill really, knowing that he is still out there, maybe he already has a new victim! But guessing by the fact that you are here, he already took someone, didn't he? Did he leave a calling card?âÂ
Rossi and Hotchner remained silent and stern faced.Â
Curtis cackled, âHe left my calling card didnât he? Your faces say it all! Oh boy, he really is my best student.â
âWho is he Andrew? We need a name-â
âHe finally did it, he got the girl didnât he?â
âGot who?â Hotch asked. âCurtis is a narcissist, play to that and he will give everything up in no time.â Rossi reminded him before they went into the room.
âYour dear Doctorâs girl! He left hints, but I wasnât sure that the kid had it in him to be honest, he always seemed too soft.âÂ
âYou sure talk a mean game for someone who doesnât know whatâs going on.â Hotch growled, knowing this would rouse up Curtis.Â
âOh come now Hotch, donât play coy with me.â Curtis growled, âHeâs got (Y/N), pretty (Y/C/H) haired thing, who if my little brother didnât care so much for, would have been one of my own victims.â
âThis prodigy is your little brother?â Rossi asked, not allowing Curtis to find out if he was right or not.Â
âNo, not blood related, just someone I took under my wing.âÂ
The door to the interrogation room opened and a guard popped his head in. âAgent Hotchner, you have an urgent call from an Agent Prentiss?â
âOf course, excuse me.â Hotch said, getting up and making his way out of the room.
He came back less than a minute later. âAgent Rossi, theyâve found a lead.âÂ
Now it was Rossiâs turn to smirk. âLooks like we wonât be needing you after all Curtis, but do enjoy your current view.âÂ
Curtis growled and yanked at his chains.Â
Rossi rolled his eyes as he got up to leave.
Right as Rossi was about to leave the room, Curtisâs voice piped up, âNothing brings me more joy than knowing I tricked you, that you profilers failed to figure out that I didnât work alone. Your devout profiling method was wrong and now my prodigy lives on, achieving his dreams, and ruining you and your doctor in the process.â
Rossi slammed the door shut to block out Curtisâs manic laughter.Â
________________________________________________
I was thinking of doing a permanent taglist for all of my fics, if youâd like to become a part of it please let me know!
Your breath heaved through your chest as you forced your body to move faster. You gritted your teeth as you jumped over a log, biting back a pained animalistic sound. You should have been more careful, you shouldnât have gone to the bar, you shouldâve left as soon as the Mandalorianâs beskar caught your eye. Maybe, just maybe, then you wouldnât be limping through the woods away from the man that was sent to hunt you down.Â
You had caused a good distraction as soon as his helmet landed on you. You knew there was a bounty on you, you had been in hiding for over a year now, believing that every second could be your last. Yet, recently you had gotten cocky, so you decided to grab a drink.Â
Turns out the Underworld is still looking for you. But now instead of the hookies who you knew how to avoid, he had sent a Mandalorian.Â
You quickly looked away and gestured to the bartender. âMartini, give it an extra kick.â The man gave you a quick nod as the Mandalorian sat next to you.Â
âYouâre a hard woman to find.â His modulated voice hummed to you. You felt a shiver go down your spine. How many times had you heard that voice, once he used to follow your every command. Oh how the times had changed.
âThereâs a reason for that Mandalorian, much like thereâs a reason you donât take your mask off.â You purred, trying to keep the fear out of your voice. âTell me, how did you find me?â You eyes meeting his visor with an unwavering glance.
âThere are some very powerful people that put a good price on your head, care to tell me why?â He asked and damn did that voice sound dangerous.Â
âOh my dear Mandalorian, that is something you will have to learn.â You teased, as the bartender handed you your drink. âLye, this man right here is paying for my drink.â You said with a smile, grabbing your martini glass and standing up.Â
The Mandalorian grabbed your other wrist as you got up, causing you to drop your drink and reach for the blaster you kept on your thigh. He was quick though, he grabbed his blaster as well and pointed it at you. âI can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold. Your choice.âÂ
âSuch a sensual voice for such foul threats.â You tsked, leaning closer to his helmet, you smiled. âSend my regards to the Underworld.â You whispered sweetly and shot at your spilt drink, causing flames to burst, making the Mandalorian drop your wrist and jump back.Â
The other bar goers screamed as your fire set off the barâs alarms and sprinklers. You sprinted out with the pushing patrons rushing towards the exit disappearing into the crowd to lose the Mandalorian. You pushed into one crowd to the next, joining a large band of tourists, hiding yourself amongst them as the Mandalorian raced out of the cantina, looking to and fro to try and spot your figure.Â
When you were sure you had lost sight of him, you slipped out of the group and headed towards the path that led you to your ship, it was a long walk away, but that was what you had to sacrifice to not be caught.Â
You picked up your pace wanting to get to your ship before the sun set. Why did you have to get a drink (Y/N)?â you chastised yourself. âYou could have just gotten supplies, gotten to your ship, and gone into the wind, but no, you had to try and do a mundane thing to make you happy. Youâre so naive.â You mumbled to yourself, pushing branches out of your way.Â
âI forgot you liked to talk to yourself,â a familiar voice mused. Your heart dropped at the sound of that voice, you turned around, hand on your blaster.Â
âKargan, it's been a while, how have you been?â You said, forcing a false cheerfulness to your voice.Â
âYour husband misses you.â Kargan said, a sickening smile on his face. âHeâs very hurt over your sudden disappearance. Many of us are.â His bright purple eyes were filled with unbridled rage as he took a step forward towards you.Â
âTell me, are the burns still healing? I had hoped they had killed him, but alas, beggars canât be choosers.â You shrugged.Â
âYouâre going to pay for your insolence to the Underworld. Your husband has so many plans for you-â Kargan purred taking a step towards you. You took a step back as two twiâleks joined him, both of them looking ready to eat you alive.Â
âAw Kargan, canât we play with her before bringing her back? Sian did say as long as we brought her in one pieceâ One of the twiâleks cooed, his eyes filled with a lust that made your stomach roil.Â
You let out a fierce growl. âCome any closer and Iâll shoot.â You raised your blaster at them in promise.Â
âThereâs three of us and one of you, looks like the odds arenât in your favor, poppet.â The same Twiâlek laughed. His laughing was cut off by a blast to his face. The man fell to the ground motionless.Â
You looked at your blaster shocked, you hadnât fired anything-Â
Silver caught the corner of your eye again as Kargan and his goon took cover. You immediately began to run towards the direction of your ship again while they were all distracted but only made it about 20 feet before a shot hit your leg. You let out a pained scream and collapsed, crawling behind a tree to take cover.Â
You held your blaster tightly to your chest as you listened to Karganâs gang and the Mandalorian shoot back and forth at each other. You heard a cry, as one of them was hit. Knowing you had to get moving, you ripped a piece of your shirt off and tied it around your injured calf, biting your lip to keep a scream of pain in.Â
You didnât realize how silent the woods had become until you were done wrapping your injury. You slowly leaned around the tree and looked for any of your attackers. Both of the Twiâleks were dead, Kargan was gone, and the Mandalorian-Â
Was looking right at you. You could feel his eyes burn into you through his visor, without a second thought you took off running.Â
âDank ferrik!â You heard him cry out behind you before his footsteps picked up.Â
You had to get to your ship, this man wanted to bring you in- he was no better than Kargan.
âPlease, just keep going, weâre almost there.â You muttered painfully to your injured leg. You could hear the Mandalorian catching up to you, his footsteps getting closer and closer.Â
You cried out as his whipcord wrapped around your good leg and brought you down, causing you to drop your blaster as you put your hands out to brace yourself.Â
You scurried to get up as the Mandalorian approached you. âStop.â He ordered sternly.Â
You ignored him, reaching for your gun as he kicked it away from you. He grabbed your flailing arms and forced you to look at him. âStop, youâre only going to make your injury worse.âÂ
âOh and I am supposed to suddenly listen to you when you had planned to kill me not even 20 minutes ago?â You snapped trying to rip your hand out of his steel grip.Â
âNo, youâre supposed to listen to the man who wants to help you, who you once trusted.â He argued.Â
You scoffed. âHow in the hell am I supposed to trust you? Do you really think I am that naive?âÂ
You heard the Mandalorian sigh as he reached down to untangle his whipcord from your leg. âI swear on my creed that you are safe with me and I will not harm you.â
You paused at that, looking into the visor that was now at your level. You knew how much he valued his creed, but things had changed since those years, did he really still follow it with his life?
After a few moments of consideration you nodded. âFine, just get me back to my ship and I will be fine from there.âÂ
âYour ship is destroyed. Kargan and his men got to it before you did. He also posted more men around the area to track you down in case you got away.â The Mandalorian explained as he unwrapped and observed your injury. ââWe need to get back to my ship before any of Karganâs other men see you.â He explained. âQuickly.â He added, his visor still focused on your injury as he offered you a hand.Â
You took it without hesitation, your mind so focused on the loss of your ship, that you had barely comprehended his last couple of words to you. Your ship had been your home and refuge for the past year, the one place you felt safe and now everything, the few items you had, the life you had made on the run, was gone. In the blink of an eye.
You were brought back to the present as pain shot through your leg and you stumbled. The Mandalorian caught you, but you pushed away from him, forcing yourself to stand on your injured leg. âIâm sorry, your ship? How do I know you wonât just put me and carbonite and call it a day? Your creed be damned.âÂ
âListen, you can either come with me to my ship, where I promise I will help you, or you can stay out here and get an infection- and thatâs if Karganâs men donât find you first.â The Mandalarian said, annoyance coating his voice.Â
You hated how he was right, but you took a step forward towards him. âFine, but any sign of funny business and I am shooting you with my blaster.â You threatened, looking around for said blaster.Â
Mando cleared his throat and held it out to you, a peace offering. You took it and looked at him.Â
âYou canât run on that leg, weâre going to have to jet back to my ship.â He said.Â
âAbsolutely not. I can run just fine, I even gave you a run for your money-â You argued turning away from him and nearly stumbling again.Â
He rushed to catch you and scooped you up. âSure you can.â He said as he shot into the sky.Â
You suppressed a scream and closed your eyes. Mando remained silent, but you could have swore you felt him smirking underneath the helmet. Bastard.
You didn't open your eyes until you felt you had landed. Mando carried you up into the ship, his steps echoing off the small ramp. He placed you on a little pull out table and unwrapped your leg again.Â
âStay here.â He said as he closed the ramp and got medical supplies. Your heart pounded as you realized you were closed in with him. Your heart pounding as watched him walk around.
âI swore on my creed that you are safe and I meant it, whether or not that means anything to you is not my problem, but I can hear your heartbeat over here.â His voice said, breaking your tense silence.Â
You remained silent, unsure of what to say.
âI never thought I would see you again.â He continued, his voice calm. âI should have recognized your face as soon as you, Queen of the Underworld.â
âDonât call me that. I donât run with them anymore.â You snapped.Â
âIâve heard.â He said.Â
Tense silence fell one again, broken only by Mando shuffling through his supplies. He made his way back to you and gently unwrapped your wound. You resisted shivering as they ghosted over your skin.Â
âThis is going to sting a bit.â He said gruffly, grabbing the bactaspray and applying it to your leg. You bit your lip to keep from whimpering and closed your eyes, forcing yourself to breathe through the pain.Â
Your eyes shot open when you heard a tiny coo.Â
Mando sighed. âKid, I told you to stay inside your crib until I came and got you.â
You looked down at the tiny child at your feet and suppressed a small squeal. Its green ears were probably â the size of its body and eyes nearly ten times the size of its little nose. The creature cooed at you curiously, causing you, despite the horrific situation you were in, to smile at it gently.Â
âHello little one.â You whispered. The kid gave you a toothy grin. âI didnât realize you had a kid.âÂ
âItâs a long story.â Mando said curtly, scooping up the child and making his way to the ladder that led to the cockpit. âYou should get some rest, thereâs a bed behind that panel, just press the button to the right of it.â
Before he could completely disappear up the ladder, you stopped him. âWhy are you helping me?â You blurted out. âWhat is your price for this? Nothing is for free, I know that better than anyone.â
There was a long pause of silence between the two of you. âBecause youâre not the first bounty Iâve been lied to about.â Mando said, his voice caring a lighter tone to it as he looked at the kid. Its big black eyes lit up and it let out a loving coo at him. He didnât say what he really wanted to. And because I could never hand you back over to that bastard again.
A slow smile came across your face. âLooks like you and I are one in the same little one.â You said gently, the child smiled at you and you giggled before he and Mando disappeared into the cockpit.
âBreaking news. After countless weeks of Quantico in fear, the murderer of five innocent women has been caught. Andrew Curtis, age 29 has been accused of first degree murder and will face trial in these upcoming weeks. Curtis was caught before laying his hands on his 6th victim, 24 year old Emily Bloise-â
You groaned, awakening to the sound of the TV blasting the news. You didnât even remember turning it on before going to bed last night. Hell, you donât even remember falling asleep. You pulled the blankets over your head to block out the noise, as you shifted your legs, you heard a jingling of chains and became aware of the cold clasped around your ankle.
Your body jolted fully awake and you shot up as everything came crashing back to you. You hadnât been able to sleep last night, you were too nervous for your presentation tomorrow. You were meeting with the one and only Lila Archer. She had gotten word of your design company and was so impressed with your work, she had contacted you to meet with her to discuss designing her vacation âworkspaceâ home in Florida. This was your first celebrity job that would most certainly put you in the big leagues if you got it right or put you six feet under if she hated it. So needless to say your brain would not shut down for the night.Â
You had given up on the idea of falling asleep on the rock hard bed the hotel had provided you. Instead you had thrown on some shorts and one of Spencerâs oversized t-shirts you had stolen from him and made your way to get some snacks from the convenience store that was just up the block from your hotel.Â
You cautiously made your way up the street, pepper spray in hand. It was 3am and you were no idiot. You were still haunted by the Andrew Curtis case, and you knew deep down so was Spencer. He had gotten you new pepper spray, a pocket knife, and a keychain alarm after the case. He made you promise to carry it everywhere you went and you had held to that promise. It was the haunted look in his eyes that had bothered you the most.Â
The bell on the door let at a shrill ring as you entered the store. You gave a small smile and a wave to the man behind the register which he returned. It looked like you were his first customer in a while.Â
You wondered the aisles waiting for a snack to catch your eye, when the bell rang again signaling that someone else had entered. You didnât really pay much attention to it, as you were focused on your very important task at hand; salty or sweet.Â
Thatâs when you caught movement out of the corner of your eye. It was a male silhouette. You struggled to make out any of his features. He had his hood up, with a ball cap pulled low to block his face. Yet even without seeing them, you could still feel his eyes on you.Â
Ice went down your spine. Something was not right about this, and you always trusted your instincts. Grabbing a random bag of chips and some chocolate covered pretzels you walked quickly over to the register. You could feel the hooded guyâs eyes burning into you even as you handed your money over to the cashier.Â
The cashier didnât seem to pick up on your discomfort and took his merry time with your purchase. You rushed out of there as soon as he handed you your change and bag.Â
You had the urge to call Spencer, but you didnât want to wake him up if you were just being paranoid, he hardly got enough sleep as it was.
Glancing over your shoulder, you realized there was no one behind you. You slowed down a bit and caught your breath, chastising yourself for letting your fear get the best of you.
That's when you felt a muscular arm encircle your waste. You began to thrash and scream, but a cloth was thrust over your mouth and with one inhale, you were met with darkness.
And now you were here; a dingy little room with soundproof walls and chains on your ankles.
âFuck, fuck, fuck.â You whispered glancing around. Your fear doubled when your eyes landed on the small TV near the foot of your bed. On it was reruns of the news footage for the Andrew Curtis case. The news footage recapturing every horrific detail.Â
You got out of the bed slowly, trying to figure out how to move with the chains around your ankles, and began to take stock of anything that could be made a weapon, but the room did not have much. You paused when you realized this room held details that looked like they were taken right from your home.Â
The gray and white duvet was exactly like the one you had on your bed in your apartment, itâs complex design hard to miss. The lamp on the bedside table, which was unfortunately glued down, was the exact replica of the one you had found while thrifting. How this person managed to get a similar one, you had no idea. You shivered when you realized there were cameras all over the room. One in each corner of the room, one on top of the TV and one glued to the bedside table.Â
You slowly made your way towards a curtain blocking off something. You took a deep breath and ripped it open, only to find a tiny bathroom with a toilet, sink, and a door. You rushed to the door and attempted to open it. The doorknob rattled, it was locked.
A voice boomed from a PA system above. âAw my darling, youâre awake!â The voice was clearly distorted to sound deeper. You nearly jumped out of your skin. âIâm sorry your quarters arenât that nice, but donât worry, after we win the game, you and I are going to go someplace where youâll have everything youâve ever desired.â
âWho the hell are you?â You growled, your head whipping back and forth to see if there was anyone in the room. âSomeone who cares very much about you. Someone whoâs been in the shadows waiting for you for a long time.â
âWhy donât you come out and show your face instead of hiding behind a little PA voice system? Only a coward hides in the shadows.â You growled trying to seem unafraid, but your body trembled.Â
âOh no my sweet, there is a game afoot and as tempted as I am to reveal myself, I have something better in mind and I canât have you ruining it.â He purred.
âWhy the fuck am I here?âÂ
âBecause darling, I had to open your eyes. Youâve been blinded by awe for your Doctor and you need to see the truth! He doesnât deserve you, he canât give you what I can! He leaves you so often, discarding you like a broken toy, only to return later to pick up the pieces.â The voice hissed.
If you werenât so terrified you would have laughed in the manâs face. âYouâre wrong. Spencer is the best thing that has ever happened to me.â You argued.Â
âYouâre a love-struck blind bitch who canât see the truth.â The voice snarled. âHe took so much away from me and I won't let him take you away too. He disgusts me. Stumbling around spewing bullshit and everyone regards him as a God. Guess I am the devil who has to show him the truth.â
Reid glanced around your room, he hated how nothing seemed out of place. Part of him wished it was ransacked so he could find a clue as to who the unsub was, so he could see wrath or vengeance or some sort of motive, but there was nothing.Â
Spencer ripped his gaze away as his heart shattered. He instead dragged his gaze around from that glancing at your bookshelves nearby. Design, fantasy, and sci-fi books were strewn all about the shelves. Spencer dragged his hand along the spines, remembering how you had teasingly refused to read any of Spencerâs âreal-worldâ books. âThe real world is too boring, I need my escapism and magic.â You said, sticking your tongue out at him as you had gone to the adult fantasy section of your favorite bookstore. Spencer had followed you, eager to explain the science magic tricks he knew.
Spencer shook his head, he needed to focus, yet every part of your room held a precious memory. He made his way to your bed, smoothing out the ornate pattern of your gray and white duvet. Your bed was made, each fluffy blanket folded and decorative pillow in place.Â
The thing that truly hit Spencer was the lone stuffed animal that sat on the bed. It was a chubby bumblebee stuffed animal. Spencer had surprised you with it, after he witnessed you squeal in delight at it through a storefront window. You had claimed it was your most prized possession and that he would be your snuggle buddy when Spencer was away on cases.
Emily popped her head in through the door. âHey Reid, any luck? I didnât find anything.âÂ
Spencer glanced up at her. âNo, everything looks normal. Not a damn thing out of place.âÂ
âWhoâs that youâre holding?â Emily asked gently.Â
âReid. (Y/N) named him that, he would be by her side when I was away. (Y/N) joked that he protected her while I was away. A lot of good he did for her.â Spencer grumbled, shoving the bee back onto the bed.Â
Thatâs when it caught his eye. The empty picture frame. The one that usually held the photo of you and Spencer, the one that had been mutilated and sent to him in a Curtis-like box.Â
Spencer observed the frame, turning it this way and that. He heard the tiniest rustling sound of something moving within the frame. He opened the back of it and a folded up piece of paper fell out.Â
Emily rushed to Spencerâs side to see what it said. Spencer slowly reached to pick up the paper and opened it.
Good job Doctor! You found something. Hopefully you find her on time! Ring, ring!
Emily looked at Spencer confused. âRing, ring?â As if on cue Spencerâs phone began to ring. âWhatâs up, Garcia?â Spencer asked urgently.
âYou need to get back to base, now.â Garcia sounded like she was near tears.
You tried to tear your eyes away from the screen, but you couldnât. The news reruns had turned into home videos that Curtis had made. You remember how Reid had explained that they had found the camera Andrew Curtis had used, but no physical films had been found. âLike they had disappeared.â He had said.
It had driven him and his team nuts because Curtis had worked alone, so who could have taken the film?
âArenât they beautiful darling?â The voice crackled through the PA. âDrew and I put so much work into them. Itâs a work of art that Picasso would envy.â
âItâs perverse and disgusting, and it proves how truly sick you and Curtis are!.â You yelled, holding back a sob.
âYet, part of you canât bear to look away can you? Have you noticed yet?â He purred.Â
You didnât answer, tears flowed down your cheeks.Â
He chuckled at your silence.
âOh you have, havenât you? I bet you thought it was a sick coincidence that they looked like you, huh?â He mocked. âDrew told me all about the haunted looks in your Doctorâs eyes. How weak your Doctor was, how your Doctor could never find them in time. They were always dead before they got there.â
âSpencer worked his ass off to catch Curtis. He managed to stop him and he saved so many more lives than what Andrew Curtis took. Spencer is not weak for not getting there in time. Curtis is sick for killing those girls in the first place!â You snarled through your tears.Â
âAh, ah, ah darling. Drew is not a sick man, heâs a hero. He was like the big brother I never had, he protected me, he made sure even when he was caught I was not. Nobody would know I was even involved with him, so I could achieve my goal of having you- of putting that ridiculous Doctor in his place.â
You remained silent, your body trembling at his confession. Whoever this man was he had worked with Andrew Curtis and he had done it just to get you.
âEvery girl was a mere tool to prepare me for when I got my hands on you. Drew told me my time would come. Even when he was caught, we wrote letters back and forth, we had a code you see. Nobody really trusts communication between a prior serial killer and innocent boy, theyâll corrupt you apparently. But we found a way around those who separated us. You see, Drew, my guide, my brilliant mentor, the man who taught me so many things, was right, now I have you right in my hands.âÂ
âWhat are you going to do?â You asked terrified.
âPlay a game.â You could hear the smile in the manâs voice.
