The sketch for this has been sitting in my folder for like a year....^^'
It's time for me to release it into the wild
I believe I had been reading some sickfics for Wild at the time and, well, I know I just missed Sicktember, but here (@ whoever is out there in the wild)
Have a Wars who fell asleep watching over a feverish Wild during the night

Warriors is on a mission to find an injured Twilight after a battle.

Preview of Fic:
âDamn it. Come on . Where are you, Rancher,â Warriors hissed to himself as he kicked open the back door of the inn.Â
Heâd been looking for the other man for the past ten minutes but hadnât been able to find him anywhere. Time said Twilight would come back when he was ready, that he probably just needed some space after the fight, but that had been a while ago and he swore heâd seen Twilight take a nasty hit during the tussle. He was sure heâd seen a large gash on the other manâs arm, but he never got a chance to check in since Twilight all but disappeared once theyâd gotten to town.
Honestly, for all the times the Rancher gave Wild and the other boys a hard time for hiding injuries, he really should know better than to run off without getting treatment.Â
Warriors jogged down the deserted street, keeping his head on a swivel. Finally, at the end of the row of buildings, he found what heâd been looking for. Twilight sat hunched over and leaning against a wall at the end of an alley. (Read on AO3.)
âRancher!â he shouted in horror when he realized what he was seeing. He sprinted the rest of the way to the Rancherâs side and knelt down next to him. âTwilight! Stop! What are you doing?!âÂ
Tears streamed down Twilightâs face and his hand shook as it guided the needle he was holding down for another stitch, a small strip of leather clamped between his teeth.Â
When Twilight didnât respond, Warriors didnât hesitate to take action. He snatched up the manâs wrist, stopping the motion before he could do any more damage, and stole the needle from the shaking hand.Â
He grabbed Twilightâs shoulder and squeezed hard. âLink!âÂ
The rancherâs eyes snapped open in shock and his breath hitched. It was unclear whether it was due to pain or the surprise of being found.Â
âW-Wars, Iââ
âShut up! I donât wanna hear it right now. I canât believe youâGive me that.â Warriors growled and snatched the needle out of Twilightâs hand, nostrils flaring. He took a few deep breaths and pushed his bangs back with his free hand. After a moment, he sighed, releasing the tension in his shoulders, and slumped forward. He took in the Rancherâs state before trying to ease the tension with a breathy chuckle. âYouâre a mess.â
Twilight let out something between a laugh and a sob in return and clenched his eyes shut. He pulled his injured arm close to his body, trying to hide the evidence.
Warriors rolled his eyes and grunted in disapproval. âGimme your arm, you idiot.â He held his hand out expectantly.
Twilight instinctively did the opposite, making it clear that heâd been mislead in the past, but after a brief pause he relinquished the limb and offered it to the Captain.
Warriors was gentle when he took the proffered limb into his hand and inspected the damage. âDid you clean this before you used it?â He held the needle up with a pointed look. He felt he knew the answer, but he wanted confirmation.
Twilight looked off to the side, caught between wanting to lie for the sake of making the Captain less angry and wanting to tell the truth so the Captain could fix his mistake. Then he slowly shook his head and looked down.Â
Wars nodded, mostly to himself. âWhat about the wound?â
Twilight grabbed something from beside him and held up an empty water skin. Then he turned his hand face down and rocked it back and forth.
âHmmâŚâ Warriors sighed after seeing the jagged stitches. âListen, Iâm really sorry, but we need to redo these.â
Twilight nodded his understanding, but didnât speak, which worried the other man.Â
âIâll try to be fast.â Warriors grabbed a small pair of medical scissors out of the pouch on his left side and quickly snipped the stitches Twilight had placed.Â
Within minutes, Wars was skillfully tying off the end of the first line of redone stitches, and continued to pinch Twilightâs broken skin together so he could quickly punch through and pull (now with a sterilized needle). He worked quickly, just like heâd promised, focusing wholly on his work, leaving any comforting words for later. The medic in him was on high alert and just couldnât worry about creature comforts when his friend was still actively bleeding and in pain.Â
âThis is going to be a huge scar, Twi,â Warriors muttered as he tied off the last stitch and snipped the excess.
âI know. Itâs fine,â Twilight whispered back, his voice hoarse with remorse.
Warriors pulled out a small jar filled with a light yellow paste and unscrewed the top, releasing vapors that smelled like comfrey, calendula, and eucalyptus.Â
âSo, why did you run off after the fight?â Wars said, trying to make small talk.Â
Twilight just shrugged.Â
âRight... Well, you donât have to talk to me about it I guess, but just know Iâm here for you, you know, if you ever do want to talk. And it doesnât need to be me either. I know Iâm not your favorite person and youâre not a fan of knights in general, but youâre not alone anymore. None of us are.â Warriors used a small wooden stick to carefully spread a glob of the paste over the wound. âWeâre all here for each other because even heroes of Hyrule need help sometimes. Nobody knows that better than us.â He bound the wound loosely with some gauze and fastened the end off. âYou can trust us to take care of you. Even if you donât want us to.â
Warriors then sat back on his heels and looked towards the end of the alley, trying to give Twilight space, but refusing to leave him alone. The silence seemed to drag on for a bit after that before the Rancher cleared his throat.
âSorry for running awayâŚâ Twilightâs voice was soft and morose.
Warriors turned back to regard the Rancher as he spoke, but didnât say anything, simply waiting for him to continue.Â
âI donâtâŚI know I harp on the younger kids for doing stuff like thisâŚI just. Donât want them to end up like me.â Twilight put his head in his uninjured hand, covering his eyes. Then he sucked in a stuttering breath. âI neverâI shouldnât have run off like that, but I thoughtâI was afraid of what everyone wouldâIâm sorry ,â Twilight broke off with a sob.Â
Warriors brow creased, hearing how distressed Twilight was, and he slowly reached out a hand and rested it on Twilightâs shoulder. âHey, itâs okay. Breathe, Rancher. You donât need to tell me the reason if you canât right now. If you want to tell me now though, Iâm all ears. But is that what you want?â
Twilight curled in on himself and shook his head. Tears started flowing freely down his cheeks and he took gasping breaths between silent cries.
âThen letâs save it for another time, yeah? You a hugger?â Warriors smirked, knowing that the other man was indeed a hugger.Â
Twilight let out another sobbing laugh and nodded. âYeah,â he croaked.
âYeah, I know. Come here, buddy.â Warriors leaned forward and pulled the slightly larger Hylian into his arms, being careful not to put pressure on the manâs injured arm. âYouâre gonna be okay, Link.â He felt the other Hylian nod and rubbed his hand up and down the manâs back.Â
After a minute or two, Twilight pulled back and took a deep breath to gather himself.Â
âYou ready to head back?â Warriors asked.Â
âYeah.â Twilight used the sleeve of his tunic and wiped away the evidence of his breakdown.Â
Warriors stood up and reached a hand down to the other man, helping him up, before the two walked back toward the inn.Â
âThanks for coming to find me,â Twilight said, his voice back to its normal timbre.Â
âAlways.â Warriors said, deadly serious. Then he punched the Rancher lightly in the shoulder and smiled. âJust, letâs not make a habit of running off like that, yeah? Cause I swear,â he altered his voice to do an impression of the Rancher, â âYou younginsâre gonna gimme gray hairs.â âÂ
