Prologue (?)- Unnamed Story
Title may change (since it technically isn't a title...)
"Year 9156. The location is Sector 317, formerly known as Morocco, of the former African continent. After WWVI, the United Nations decided to start a world-wide policy against the segregation and mistreatment of hybrids. All governments are required to send all hybrids to schools and to build housing center exclusively for them.
Hybrids were first seen after WWIV, when the former United States' wastes and landfills were 'accidentally' dumped into the oceans and water supplies. Children and babies born during or after this incident grew to be what we now call hybrids. Some scientists have since then discovered that, depending on your region and creatures that you encounter, or even just what got into your ancestors' water supply, you could become a certain hybrid.
Naturally, most people became cat or dog hybrids. A few reptilian hybrids, and even a few horse hybrids were the first to be spotted. It was basically a 2009 fangirl's dream.
The U.S. officially broke up into 40 sectors in 8496. Alaska merged with Sector 212, or West Canada, and Hawaii merged with Japan because of science and stuff, becoming Sector 21 1/2.
All countries agreed that the sectors would be controlled by elected groups, with the main leaders being the richest and poorest person in each sector. Including these leaders, there are 6 elected officials that live in separate parts of the sector and come together three times every 6 months.
Hybrids are generally accepted, and are sometimes part of the Tells, the Sector Officials, as the poor leader. Luckily, poor is only relative to the rich. There are no more homeless, and most homeless center have been converted into kickass schools for Hybrids.
The worldwide population has gone down 38% in the last 2,000 years because of discrimination. However education and clinics have helped to slow the decline.
Hybrids have become very powerful over the years, even more so than humans. Because the merge with animals, they can earn that animal's abilities. Hybrids have helped proved millions of theories, explored the ocean and space, and created a phenomenon that destroys air pollution (though it has been mostly untested.)
In conclusion, Hybrids are awesome. They benefit Earth more than mankind has in 3,000 years, and look amazing. The end."
Leira grinned at her class, most of which had fallen asleep. Leira Clove, a racoon hybrid. She was short, and basically a dark-colored stick. Dark brown hair, with bits of white mixed in, and very dark, nearly black eyes. A confident little raccoon girl, atleast.
The teacher, a dog-hybrid, sighed and motioned for Leira to give her the report.
"I'll accept it this time, but please try to use more profound language. And less expletives." She scolded, motioning for the raccoon-hybrid to take her seat.
Leira saluted and hopped over to her seat, tucking her tiny tail to the side.
Beside her sat a sleeping fox-hybrid, who just happened to be her best friend. Well, girlfriend. Angorra Sclairstein, the epitome of what people would think of if a humanized fox was a thing. Sexy, basically. Her hair was short, and was a red color, like you would think a fox's would be. Her eyes were light brown, and her skin tone was a light olive.
Leira jabbed her in the side.
The class turned to look at the duo. Leira grinned innocently at them. After a light scolding from the teacher, who sent them to stan in the back of the class, Angorra angrily pulled on Leira's ear.
"I was having such a good dream, damn you!"
Leira snarled at her, falling silent as the teacher turned to glare at the girls. Wisely, they fell silent until the bell rang.
After class, the teacher pulled Leira aside.
"Leira, I'm afraid that if you continue to disrupt class, I'm going to have to give you detentions."
"Just try to keep quite while I'm talking. And work on sounding more professional in your reports!" She shooed Leira off to lunch.
Angorra met her outside the classroom, and the two began their trek to their lockers.
"I told you to let me read it over before it was time to present." Angorra chided, throwing her her bag into the locker and slamming it shut with a bit of work.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll think about it net time." Leira took out her math textbook, putting the history book under various papers that probably should've been thrown away years ago.
The pair made their way to the packed lunchroom, exchanging banter along the way. As they slipped past the door, Leira inhaled deeply, stretching her arms out.
"Smells like pizza! I'm gonna miss these lunches." Obviously not, with the grin on the hybrid's face.
"You won't be able to if you keep getting in trouble! I refuse to go to college without anyone, so you'd better stay in line." Angorra lectured her, grabbing two slices of pizza and a vita-soda.
"I don't care if I have to drag you through school by your fuzzy little tail. And don't think I won't put a gag on you."
"That's kinky." Leira dodged Angorra's tail as it sailed towards her face. "Sorry, sorry!" She took three slices of the (non-cardboard type) pizza, skipped the drinks, and an apple to balance it out.
While they waited in line, Leira began to chew on her fruit, watching the hybrids scuttle around as she thought over her schedule for the day. Suddenly, she gasped.
"I didn't do my math homework!" Leira nearly screeched and hurriedly paid for her lunch, pushing the plate into Angorra's arms. She ran to her locker and pulled out her binders and calculator, running outside to the dome.
She flew to the table Angorra had chosen, tripping more than a few times as she made her way down the sidewalk.
"Didn't you have like... twelve pages to do?" The ginger pushed the pizza slices over to her girlfriend.
Leira clicked her tongue. "Only nine! But I already finished one last night, before I fell asleep."
Angorra rolled her eyes. "Better get on it, honey." The fox raised her arm and began waving, motioning for two others to join them. May and her boyfriend, Joel.
"What's up, ladies?" May sat next to Angorra, peeking over at Leira's paper. "Yikes! Mrs. Jameson is gonna kick your ass out the window."
May Glory, a drama queen if there had never been one. She was tall at 5'9'', and was an owl hybrid. Her eyes were large, her eyes a shining green as she haughtily smiled, hooked onto the arm of her boyfriend, Joel as she twirled her 'dark grey' (she insisted that it absolutely wasn't black) hair around her finger. She wasn't all bad of course! Someone had to over-confident in the world, right?
Joel Canory, a half panda, was almost the opposite of May (excluding his height, at a 'taller than May' 6'4''.) His hair was black and white, like a panda's stripes, and his eyes were a rare orange, from his mother's monkey genes. As if to contrast his commanding girlfriend, Joel was almost always acting silly, though he did like to keep quiet when he could. A certain rarity when he was kicking Leira's ass while playing sports. She blamed it on his 'boy genes'.
Joel sat next to Leira, across from May. "Wait..." A horrified look crossed his face. "I didn't do mine either!" He threw his bag on the table, shaking the entire thing. Angorra's soda nearly flew onto the concrete.
"Careful, care-bear!" May sighed. "I swear, you two should be the ones dating instead of me and him."
"I take offense to that!" Leira said in a sing-song. "I actually want to go to college. Not just to follow my girlfriend." She paused. "Technically."
May gasped. "I always knew you were into ladies!" She teased, acting as if it had been a secret.
"Shush! What's the square root of 3,826 divided 12 to the third?"
"Oh, I forgot my utensils!" May shot off of the bench, shaking the skirt of her dress to dust it off.
"I'll help you... carry them!" Angorra volunteered, following the owl into the cafeteria.
However, they were soon speeding back to the table, looking panicked.
"Guys, holy fuck! We just heard that-" May interrupted herself as she gasped for breath. "Mother Earth, I need to work out." She keeled over, placing her hands on her knees.
Angorra shooed the taller woman into a seat. "What she means is, we just heard form one of the teachers that by the end of the semester, the top ten students of the school will get into a college of their choice for free-"
"Excluding housing and food and shit! I asked." May interrupted.
"...Without having to finish high school!" Angorra finished dramatically, squealing in excitement. "They're setting up a board in the lunchroom, which shows the top 20. I'm number 13."
"I'm 14!" May called, stealing a slice of Joel's pizza as a reward. "And you, my little Hemingway, are number 17." She hummed in delight. "We can help each other study!"
Leira cleared her throat. "Well, what am I?" The two other girls quickly fell silent, looking guilty. "What?"
"Love..." Angorra slid in beside her girlfriend. "You weren't exactly... on the board."
"What?! My only bad class is History, and that's only a C!"
Angorra began to pet Leira's head, calming her down. "I know, I know! I asked a teacher, and they said the list isn't final until the week before the semester ends. Go ask the principal what number you are later, yeah?"
At Leira's reluctant nod, Angorra smiled and pulled away. "I'll even help you get your grades up."
Leira groaned, faceplanting into the math text. An even louder groan echoed through the dome as the bell rang. "I didn't even finish my homework."
Angorra grimaced. A scold from Mrs. Jameson was worst than getting an F on a final.
The raccoon shook her head sadly, slowly stuffing her things into her bookbag. She slung it over her shoulders and stalked off without a goodbye.
May sighed through her nose. "She still has three weeks this quarter to get into the top 20, atleast? Then she'll have a whole nine."
Angorra shrugged. "We just need to have confidence in her. Let's hurry to class before we're late, though."
Joel and May nodded, waving goodbye as the fox scuttled off to her locker, though they didn't miss her chewing on her lip in worry before she disappeared around the corner.
