The dark of the room felt heavy, but far too empty at the same time. His palms were sweaty from the sultry heat, and a bead of sweat ran down the back of his neck. He sighed, and the empty room swallowed the noise in a way that made goosebumps rise up on his arms. It wasn't the first time he sat in this exact spot, scared but unable to move. Dark shadows danced in the corners of the room and behind the furniture. When he looked closer there was nothing there. His mimd was playing tricks on him, he was aware of that much, but it didn't help the unsettling feeling that something was lurking, waiting to get to him. The thoughts clouding his mind were too heavy, weighing down his mind enough for him to fail to realize the approaching footsteps. The door opened, causing him to gasp, and send his heart racing. He heard a click, and just like that the looming shadows disappeared, leaving him with a dump struck face as he looked up at Dante, who didn't look nearly as surprised as the man sitting on the small bed in the room, otherwise filled with nothing but a small closet and a nightstand. He moved slowly, a lot slower than what he was capable when fighting off threads that were beyond a speed humans were able to comprehend. A hand found a place on the distressed man's shoulder as the mattress dipped between their joined weight. It wasn't the first time Dante sat in this spot either, holding his partner. "There's nothing here," he spoke quietly and slowly, as if to help the shorter man catch up to reality. Shaky hands joined over Dante's. An arm soon followed by wrapping around Dante's neck, clinging onto him and tightly as was possible for his priorly frozen limps. "i know," the weak voice replied. He climbed onto his boyfriend's lap, curling up on the strong body. Neither one spoke, both too afraid to cause the dam of his fragile past emotions to break. "i didn't want to wake you up, so i just came here." Dante hummed, rocking their bodies slowly before replying, and his voice betrayed the slightest hint of irritation, "You know I don't mind." He nodded, "i do." He wanted to say more, but couldn't. He wasn't certain what was holding him back, but he felt too weak to combat this inability. A hand slowly rubbed over his spine. "Do you want to go back to bed," he whispered, head instinctively tilted down towards his lover, who replied with a quiet hum and a whisper, "please."

They moved in an unspoken rhythm, steps synchronous as they walked through the dark of the old factory building. A familiar calm spread through his body as he entered their bedroom. "you should've stayed asleep. i didn't mean to wake you," his voice was muffled again Dante's chest. "Hm," Dante grumbled the small noise before tugging him closer. They curled up once again, his heartbeat finally calming to a normal speed.

"thank you," he voiced, head now rested neatly on Dante's chest. Dante didn't reply, and the men fell into silence before both finally fell back asleep.
