His words, ever plain and so simple, still made her heart thump like a beating drum. Together, as a team, partners, family. She knew she shouldn’t be touched by something so easily said, so easy not to mean. But still, she was. The fact that he was choosing to stand by her side and do this with her meant the world. “Thank you.” She spoke.

Her lips parted, a confused expression dwelled on her face. Perhaps it was a mundane expression, or a mundane person? She didn’t know much about mundane pop-culture, even back before she was imprisoned. Her family had kept that (and a lot of other things), from her, and when she was finally on her own she just couldn’t bring herself to get interested. No one cared about showing her enough. 

Still, Jace’s words rang in her eyes loud and clear. Fleeing. From her. “You don’t have to... to flee.” She spoke gently, fearful he wouldn’t even listen. Though, she wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t. “I don’t want you to flee, I wan’t to talk to you.” She spoke with words with an unsureness to her tone, unsure how he would respond to her or even care to respond at all. “I am sorry about your friend Bambi though. That she was so close to a forest fire she had to run--that sounds horrible.”

“The super poor part, the sob story part or the injured part? You mean the injured part-I’m sure. Okay well, so here’s the thing. I didn’t realize I was injured. I bumped into a chick before and I thought it was all fine, howdy do and all that crap but then I was walkin and I felt like I got water spilled on me and I smelt something weird-ish and then I realized I was bleeding.” She tried to smile but it ended up as a grimace, she wished she could remain more cheerful in these situation. “Funny story, huh?”

A snort left her lips in an instant those words were spoken. “OH please,” She exclaimed, unable to conceal her chuckles. “Let’s be real here, if you wanted to you could get any girl in this bar. Any guy for that matter. We both know you got the game for it.” She expressed with amusement clear in her tone. “I could name at least six peeps who have been given you the bedroom eyes this whole night. It’s kinda ridiculous actually and I’m legit pretty jealous.” She gave him a full grin. “But, I’m also sure you love hangin out with your pal Luna so what are you really missin?”

The words startled her. She knew that, with ease, Jace could throw her like a rag-doll into the nearest wall or table and she’d go flying. Which was actually kinda funny, considering in most tales faeries had wings and could legit do the flying thing. However, she was also partially thankful for the no wings bit. Just airplanes alone made her queasy after all. 

His words processed through her mind, and she stared at him with bewilderment. A dash of hurt. That he’d say such a thing to her when they were friends, at least she thought they were friends. Feeling her throat dry, her fingers retreated their hold upon him. “I’m sorry.” The words left her mouth and she had to push them out with all her might. Tears gathered in her eyes. She was too fragile, and she knew it. She needed to learn how to be tough, how to be strong. It was the only way she’d ever defeat Ardyn.

With a burst of bravery, she spoke. “Wait.” Confidence, she needed confidence. Confidence. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, or angry-and if I grabbed you to hard or something I’m sorry for that to. But you could of said so, instead of making me fell horrible-cause thats how those words made me feel. Horrible. If you said something I would of listened and I would of talked to you-in fact I will still listen and I will still talk to you-cause I’m a good person and you know Seelie’s can’t lie so you know I am. So talk to me. Tell me whats wrong and help me understand. Cause I think of you as a friend and I care about my friends a ton. Let me be there for you.”

It happened so fast, too fast. She was no shadowhunter, nor a werewolf or a vampire. Just a seelie. A slow as a sloth seelie when compared to others of the shadow world. She struggled to find the right words---were there right words? There was something in Jace--her friend’s--eyes that she didn’t quite understand. “I um....” What was going on? All she felt was a steadfast confusion.

He’s chill. Lunafreya knew little shadowhunters but the ones she did know were arrogant, cold and somewhat cruel. However, Jace wasn’t any of those things. Well, perhaps he was a little arrogant, but not to the point of being obnoxious. He was also kind, he showed her greater kindness then she ever thought a nephilim was capable of. He was her friend, and she cared for him deeply.

Simon sighed. “I’ve seen the way you look at her. I can tell, Jace. I know how people look when they’re hopelessly in love. I’ve done it hundreds of times.”
