So it’s Friday and I forgot to post reviews all week. That’s how my life goes a lot of the time so we’re gonna start marathon review week now with Sing Me to Sleep a little-known novel by Angela Morrison. I found this book on a Goodreads list a few months back and the summary caught my attention, so I did what anyone that’s familiar with how libraries work would do: I purchase requested it. The book starts off by introducing us to Beth, a tall girl with thick glasses that has become accustomed to being addressed as “The Beast” due to scars on her face that she was born with. Beth has a whopping one friend and seems to draw attention even though she would rather not. The only thing she likes about herself is her voice. Her competitive youth choir is her only escape and her dream is to go to the Choral Olympics in Switzerland. When a chance chain of events puts Beth up in center stage as the soloist, she undergoes a massive transformation and ends up getting a dream come true. When Beth leads her choir to the Choral Olympics, she finds herself entranced by Derek, a mysterious boy that’s keeping a dark secret. Beth is torn between her love for Derek and her worries about what he is keeping from her. 

I was intrigued by the reverse Beauty and the Beast storyline in this novel and I wasn’t disappointed. It definitely has its ups and downs just like any other novel, but it was well worth the read. This book illustrates how small insignificant details can lead to a largely significant ending.
