Before the warehouse, Sawyer didn’t think he’d ever said more than two words to Angel and even during the plotting, he’d done more listening than talking. Part of it, he knew, could be blamed on his time away, but he’d been home long enough for it to become a lame excuse, and so he wouldn’t dare try and bullshit her with it. Truthfully, he’d been distracted, trying endlessly to figure out where he landed in the club that he hadn’t even paused long enough to realize that he wasn’t the only one. Having been a Primordial since he was twenty years old, a patchover was something Sawyer couldn’t readily relate to. He could only imagine how uncomfortable the transition had been for the former Crooked Bastards, but it still wasn’t something he had any experience with. But it was Angel’s reality, and Sawyer would be remiss if he didn’t take the opportunity to reach out to her— especially after what had happened with their warehouse job.
Spotting her at the clubhouse that afternoon, he fit a cigarette between his lips and approached her, “Hey, Angel.” He hesitated a moment, realizing yet again how horribly awkward he was in situations like this one. The ability to produce conversations out of thin air with someone he didn’t know wasn’t one of his strongest attributes. Even so, he sank down into the seat across from her and offered up a small smile, “Ya got a minute?”
