Some nights appear to hold more Wonder than others, but this is false. The Wonder is always there, moving about the city in little whirlpools of wind, pushing leaves around and blowing on the back of your ear. The Wonder moves to the life-beat of humans and other creatures, whispering and smirking, sneaking a look at you from the stone eyes of the statues you pass, holding one hand to its heart while reaching out with the other, just to get the slightest taste of what your imagination may hold. A midnight cocktail, if you will. Or a hint of chicory in its coffee. Or a distant spotlight in the fog, signaling the final streetcar of the night.
