Another book rec from me: the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt. 30+ books about a snarky lawyer who hates all the lawyer-y stuff. And work in general. And pretty much most people. But he loves, no, he absolutely adores his dog, Tara, a golden retriever who's - in Andy's eyes at least - the most perfect creature to ever walk this God given earth. Ergo.
This series is downright hilarious. Andy is an amazing lawyer. He's absolutely fantastic at his job. But he also hates it. And would rather spend time with his dog Tara and watching sports. But he also hates bullies and injustice. Which is kinda a problem what with him hating work in general because it's just, well, too much work. Thus he ends up with new clients - once in a blue moon, that is - in the weirdest and most convoluted ways possible. Once, it started with a klepto German Sheppard and ended with a terrorist plot, go figure.
Andy is also well know for his snark and smart-ass attitude. The prosecutors want to strangle him, the judges feel the urge to throw the gavel at him, even his friends - the few that he has - think him an a-hole. His monologues are a hoot. He couldn't not snark to save his life.
And the supporting cast is also hilarious. Laurie, his sometime lover then girlfriend then wife and also his investigator. Marcus, the scary one-man assault commando. Sam, the accountant slash hacker slash wannabe gunslinger. Pete, the cop determined to empty Andy's bank account via drink and food. Willie, Andy's client in the first book and later on his partner in the Tara Foundation, a dog rescue. Vince, the reporter who knows everyone and his/her uncle... They're all real 3D personalities!
Also, the author, David Rosenfelt, and his wife run the Tara Foundation in RL. They own 27 dogs too old or too sick to find a new home and Rosenfelt's love for dogs runs like a red thread through the whole book series.
Also #2, if you can, listen to these books in audio form. The reader, Grover Gardner, adds so much to the books that it's a real pleasure to listen to them. They always put a huge smile on my face.
