KINAL party leader Nikos Androulakis set off a ‘bomb’ this week by stating he discovered an attempt to tap his mobile phone using Predator. The National Intelligence head later admitted they had spied on journalist Koukakis.

A hunger striker nearly died this week. Protesters supporting him were met by extreme police violence. He is a convicted bank robber, and he happens to be an anarchist. Power in Greece treated him worse than the worst of criminals.

The President of Democracy chose to deliver a speech in defense of the court’s decision to let convicted child-rapist ex-National Theatre Director Lignadis walk free, against the widespread citizens’ reactions and ignoring the Public Prosecutor’s intervention.

Greek PM Mitsotakis has failed to provide any persuasive answers on the wiretapping scandal that has shaken the country, reminding us of its darkest eras. He and ND's communication mechanisms have proved inconsistent and dangerous for democracy and the country’s international relations. 

ND officials have moved from leaking information to the press that Ukraine and Armenia have asked them to spy on Androulakis to even justifying it on the existence of Greek Muslim MPs. Government-affiliated newspapers even blamed the victims. Meanwhile, the EU Commission has called for an investigation of the scandal, while an MEP called for Europol and the EU Prosecution authorities to investigate. 

Finally, 5-year-old refugee child Maria died stung by a scorpion while stranded with a group of refugees in an Evros islet. "I had not been informed," said the Prime Minister.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis characterizes the "wiretapping scandal" as a big and unforgivable mistake with his statement in Sunday's Vima, stressing that he owes an apology to Nikos Androulakis.

"I owe an apology to Nikos Androulakis," the prime minister characteristically declares, broadcasts in.gr, and claims that "I was not informed" regarding the monitoring of the phone of the president of PASOK - KINAL by the EYP.

Nikos Androulakis has been elected the new leader of socialist party Movement for Change (KINAL/PASOK). According to first results on Sunday evening, the 42-year-old politician gathered 68.42% of the 206,000 votes, while former prime minister Giorgos Papandreou received 31.58%.

Papandreou but also PM Mitsotakis called the new leader and congratulated him before the final results. Mitsotakis also invited him for a “chat” in the following days. On the first round of leadership elections, last Sunday, a total of 270,000 participated in the vote.

Sadly, the new leader will not be able to represent the party in the Greek Parliament as he is an elected member of the European Parliament since 2014.

KINAL/PASOK is the third largest party in Greek Parliament with 22 MPs.

Will he resign from the MEP position? First analyses say “Hardly!”
