In Nintendo games main antagonists usually are brought back again and again with little to no explanation. Ganondorf/Ganon in Legend of Zelda, Bowser in Super Mario... so on and so forth.

In Star Fox, Andross is no exception to this. As we often complain about. However, the SNES games give us an interseting look at what could have potentially been done with Andross.

In the first Star Fox game, Andross' sprite portrait looks like this:

Then, in Star Fox 2 - a direct sequel to the first Star Fox - he looks like this:

He's half cybernetic now. Kind of like how Ridley (from Metroid) gets more and more messed up every time we see him.

This makes me wonder, though, if Star Fox hadn't been rebooted with Star Fox 64, would this theme have continued? Would Andross have returned in Star Fox 3 with even more cybernetics?

Would he have continued to be defeated and return with more and more cybernetic parts until, eventually, he was completely robotic? Effectively Ship of Theseus'ing himself into an immortal enemy for Star Fox to face off against over and over again?

Huh. That actually sounds kind of familiar...

I do wonder what Star Fox would have looked like in this potential alternate timeline. With Andross being an ever-present villain slowly transforming over the course of the games.
