Manchester,
Im really enjoying you at the moment, whilst my shop is waiting until the big move, i can't help but feel inspired by everything around me. Although i feel retail is being pushed out of the city because of high rent & business rates its only bars/restaurants that are surviving. The Northern quarter has changed so much, its been like this for years but a new part of town is becoming more quirky. Good olde Ancoats, although i live in ancoats (yes i am bias) i never thought this was the next Northern quarter!Â
Im currently sat in Ancoats coffee (http://www.ancoats-coffee.co.uk) i was familiar with this name because numerous coffee shops use the coffee they manufacture. In the back they have bags and bags of the stuff. Its so refreshing to see a local/independent business when all I've been seeing is bars owned by the same owners slowly taking over manchester. Im drinking a filtered coffee, the guy described everything about the taste and even the after taste. Coffee experts & its so good to try something different.Â
From my house i pass my friends pizzeria, Rudys   (https://www.twitter.com/rudyspizzamcr) Named after the cute dog that Jim & Kate own… another independent business. All i know is, every time i go in for pizza it is chocka… barely able to get a table and totally thriving, its wonderful to see.. Quite a lot of units in the area are taken, including a convenience store, no not spar, no not tesco… its indie! (hate using that word - www.twitter.com/ancoatsgs)
Ive been very stubborn over the years as I've slowly seen manchester become more corporate, more london but without the ‘brick lane’. This big move in hebden bridge will certainly make me look at other business ideas.Â
SHOP LOCAL !Â
