VALDIVIA DOUBLE-SIDED CEREMONIAL STONE PLAQUE This large plaque is carved on both sides with a complex pattern of punctate motifs crisscrossed by arrow motifs within double-framed quadrants. The significance of these types of engraved stones, which are almost always rectangular-shaped and which in the present example is sizeable and uniquely carved on both sides, remains unknown to this day. The motifs represented are unique for their complexity, the opposing arrows might imply a supernatural dimension linked to a divinatory system.
