The land of Uz is not pinned down with certainty, but it is usually placed somewhere **east or southeast of Israel**, often in or near ancient Edom, northern Arabia, or the broader southern Levant. By contrast, Edom proper was the territory south of the Dead Sea, in the area of modern southwestern Jordan and southern Israel.
Relation to Edom
The Bible itself links Uz and Edom in a few ways, especially in Lamentations 4:21, which speaks to Edom and “the land of Uz,” suggesting close geographic or political overlap. At the same time, Jeremiah 25 lists Uz and Edom separately, which suggests that Uz was not simply identical with Edom in every sense.
Best way to picture it
A good rough picture is that Uz lay **near Edom, or partly overlapping the wider region around Edom**, rather than far away from it. So if Edom is the more specific highland territory south of the Dead Sea, Uz is the broader and less certain borderland or neighboring region associated with that same southern zone.
