The Legend Continues Tonight
Ron Burgundy is back, bitches!
One of the most hyped movies of 2013 hits theaters tonight. Close on the heels of legendary sequels Godfather II, Rocky II, and Speed 2: Cruise Control, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, is arguably the most anticipated sequel in film history. (I have no facts to support that statement. Just going with my gut).
All I've been hearing as the release date approached was how whenever someone asked, "Hey man. You gonna go see the new Anchorman sequel?" their first response was "I don't know. It won't be as good as the first one." Well, no shit! Obviously, it won't be as good as the first one. Do you know what an impossible task that is for this movie to be as good as the first Anchorman? That's like asking Michelangelo to come back after painting the Sistine Chapel and "up his game." for next time. It's like thinking Dorothy Mantooth is NOT a saint. It's like betting on The Little Giants to take down Spike, Kevin O'Shea, and the pee wee Cowboys if they were to play again. Don't throw away your money. It's just not going to happen. Don't you remember their halftime speech? "One Time." They were only going to beat the Cowboys on that day and that day only. If they played 100 times, the 'Boys win 99 of them. But, you can't account for Johnny's Dad coming back early from his business trip, or Hot Hands finally catching the damn ball. Those are true x-factors.
The same can be said for Ron Burgundy and the News Team's return to the silver screen. Expecting it to be better than the o.g. is simply asking too much. Don't go to the theater tonight or this weekend expecting it to be funnier or better than the first Anchorman. You may just leave disappointed. Just go expecting to laugh your ass off and leave with more quotes in your back pocket to take to your upcoming New Year's party than you could imagine. That's what the first Anchorman gave us; possibly the most quotable movie in history. "Milk was a bad choice." "It's boring, but it's a part of my life." "Don't act like you're not impressed." I have no doubt the sequel will do just the same.
It's going to be funny as hell. Just enjoy it. And, of course, stay classy.
