[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This title seems to have come across as more of an art experience than a gaming experience.
One of the few games that tackle Mental Health head on; Anamorphine is about depression and playing it through the eyes of Tyler, someone who gets through pain by reliving past memories. This environmental story telling title will have you immersed in the seriousness of depression and getting you emotionally involved in the characters. The ambient sound and soft background music of the Cello (Which has a part in the story just bee tee dubs, great addition) gives you a calm and understanding environment to tackle the games âlevelsâ one by one. Something I noted, this is the first game that ive seen that gives you a prompt explaining the sensitive nature of the subjects the title tackles. This story will keep you playing at a slow paced, enjoying it, and keep on coming back for more.
In fairness, this section isnât going to be long because of the simplicity of the games style, but the delivery of this was stronger than you would expect. Being a game that delves into emotion, they kept it smooth and clean, with the interaction with object being as simple as looking at things, there are no zombies or antagonists in this title, just you and how you interpret the message that the developers are putting across.
IMAGINE THIS, all the emotion you feel, take that and reimagine it as paint; ok? Now every time you feel an emotion, you splatter that colour all around you, vibrant and beautiful. This game, is so beautifully made, it may not be the best and cleanest game ever made, but these developers sure knew how to use colours and contrast to invoke emotions, I would rate this as one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen, even after Final Fantasy. The graphics quality isnât the best, but its forgiven based on how they used it.
The audio in Anamorphine is top level and story driven, tying into the theme and moments. The story comes through really well in the music and the quality of this.
The game has a few bugs that I noticed and a few elements that make the game feel incomplete. However, the experience trumps this and if these can be fixed and some more effort put into this game, it will easily be worth the money you would usually pay for it. The 2 hours of gameplay and story make for one of the most amazing artistic experiences youâll ever have on the console and I cannot wait to dive into it once the PSVR version is out.
