what hobbies did blue try as a child? ie. any inescapable music lessons, roller skating accidents, somehow getting shoehorned into the school bluegrass band where she played the triangle
oh god ALL OF THESE AND MORE ok so like
for one thing, 300 fox way is absolutely filled, FILLED to the brim with hobby & craft supplies, like thereās this whole closet with a bunch of mislabeled boxes that Jimi attempted to organize at one point and then gave up thatās constantly shedding glitter and hot pink feathers and neon beads and chess pieces and things, so literally Blueās entire childhood was filled with escapades in different craft arenas. there was the week she was really REALLY REALLY into shrinky-dinks (Maura still has a bunch of little wonky-looking charms of birds and leaves and things Blue made in a drawer somewhere) and the time she started making her own earrings from found objects (Persephone still loves the twig-and-broken-eggshell ones even if they do smell weird) and the day where she tried really really hard to get into crocheting and ended up with a bunch of little mutant mittens before giving up and letting the cats have the yarn.
Maura never forced her into music lessons, but Blue had a wild affair with a lot of different instruments, always ones that no one else was at all interested in learning, like the piccolo and the organ and the triangle, and she was always pretty terrible at them but she had fun. and she went through phases with sports; she never was into organized sports but she first tried roller skating and then moved to ice skating, envisioning herself at the olympics, until she realized how much balance is actually required, and finally she settled on skateboarding, because while that still requires balance, using a board as an extension of her body made more sense in her head. and calla would never let her out of the house without a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist braces, and thick clothes on if she was going to be skateboarding down hills and whatnot, but she still got pretty good and can even still pull out a few tricks with her sticker-covered board when she feels like it (Noah is delighted by watching her skate and she tried to give him lessons only to realize that he goes a little too incorporeal when faced with the prospect of navigating terrain on small wheels).Ā
Anyway basically Blue has tried everything at least once and the stuff that sticks is the stuff that makes her feel really special and strong. The girl can blow a mean harmonica, let me tell you.
