CHANGE AND REMAINING RELEVANT
Change is inevitable. Being relevant is imperative. As individuals, we face change daily--change in the information that comes into our lives, change in the way information is delivered to us, and change in the ways we pass that information along to our family and friends who themselves are changing every day. We must keep ourselves relevant. Never has that need been more evident than in Professor Stephen Hawking's response to a query posed during Hawking’s recent event at the Sydney Opera House, where he was beamed in as a hologram from his home in Cambridge.
Buzzfeed Australia reports a guest asking: “What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?”
“Finally, a question about something important,” Hawking replied, to a wave of laughter.
“My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe. And in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.”
Demonstrating a subtle awareness of the Directioners' devotion to their boys, Hawking added the follow-up: “This girl may like to know that in another possible universe, she and Zayn are happily married."
Hawking's quick thinking proved a hit with fans, who posted their appreciation on Twitter.
Professor Stephen Hawking understands the need to remain relevant. So too should we.
