Haha, even further back?? At this point it's just pure fan speculation, but sure, i'd love to!! I do somewhat prefer the headcanon that they're adopted sisters (just to make the azura/corrin ship pushed by the game a bit less icky) but in the spirit of them having the same parents, I couldn't resist the opportunity of doing more character design 😉
I like to imagine that Arete was super close with both her parents, but loved her mother especially, who taught her how to sing, while her father was more the dancer. The timeline says that Anakos rises to power and overtakes Valla by the time Arete is married, so at least 18-- but I like to imagine that both girls lost their parents at a young age, and that the loss made Arete more withdrawn and far more protective of her little sister (who came to really resemble their mom). Mikoto was young enough to only remember the happy memories of them together, and managed to keep her warm nature and innocence, which was one of the qualities that had Anakos's heart fall for her... before he snapped and killed Arete's husband. 😅
The immediate rift brought up by their husbands end up being the reason the two sisters end up on opposite sides, of Hoshido and Nohr... and though it's a snap decision that push them to flee down different paths away from Valla, its one they both deeply regret until... I guess they eventually die 😭 it's a sad story, but eventually their kids end up finding each other and fixing that generational rift, so at least there's a happy ending way down the line?
