It was April 2, 2005 when Pope John Paul II went home to heaven. I could still remember how sad I was that I was not able to see him in my lifetime. He was the Pope while I was growing up, and his witnessing for Christ have become so relevant to me that I wanted so much to know the God he loves so much.
Now, April 19, 2014, a day before my birthday, I was so blessed to finally get the chance to get close to his relics. These includes his skullcap (notice how the mother Mary is at the backgournd even though I took a shot of the skullcap without realizing she was there--- Pope John Paul II is not Pope John Paul II without the blessed mother), his rosary, pieces of his chasuble, cassock, a piece of cloth from his deathbed, and some strands of his hair. There was also the chair he sat on when he came to the Philippines in 1981. And a cloth with a drop of his blood.
Easter Sunday is my birthday, the mother of all celebrations in the Catholic church, and despite my tragedy at the start of this year, I am experiencing a renewal of hope, through the sacrifice of our Lord for me in His resurrection.
One of my surprises is the Totus Tour of the relics of Pope John Paul II.
Flashback: 2005. On April 20, 2005 Philippine time, (April 19, 2005 in Vatican) the "Habemus Papam" was finally announced after a long period of waiting. On my birthday, a new pope was declared. :) an equally awesome Pope he turned out to be. I do miss Pope John Paul II, but his successor was a follower of his, and has beatified him in a short span of time.
To me, this birthday is so meaningful. My journey with God is a difficult road to take, but with Him on my side, I can withstand every trials that come my way. Thank God for the Easter Birthday. And thank God for this Marian Pope.
