âł kageyama x reader | angst | word count : 1.2K
âł hiii there! i see you woke up and chose pain đ i loved writing this tho, iâll most definitely read it when iâll have my heart broken for the first time đĽł
âł hereâs something i recommend listening to if you really want your soul to be crushed :)
kageyama felt numb, and was used to it.
waking up next to you, hugging you, kissing you⌠everything that used to light a spark inside of him had slowly faded into an inescapable void, and he had no choice but to let it die. there was nothing where there used to be so much. he had stopped caring and inexorably stopped loving.
black hair, dark blue eyes, pointed chin. every feature of the boy standing in front of you corresponded to the one you loved so dearly. but that was not him anymore. because the boy you loved used to love you back.
âiâm sorryâ. how could these two words mark the end of fourteen months so easily ?
the answer was simple: they didnât. because deep down you knew it had already been over for weeks. when you noticed that his embrace became stiffer, that his lips against yours felt dull for the first time, and that his eyes started to lie.
âsince when ?â you asked, freeing your bottom lip from your teeth that were digging in the flesh, âsince when are you lying ?â
maybe it had been more than weeks. months? or maybe he had always lied? yet at that moment, while ironically standing outside the cafĂŠ where your first date had taken place, his gaze had never seemed so honest.
kageyama knew he was the bad guy, he had spent many sleepless nights crushed by this thought. you deserved an answer, but how could he give you one when there simply wasnât ? he did not know when the lies had started, but he knew that they were ending today.
âANSWER ME !â you yelled, furiously punching his shoulders.
he grabbed your wrists as the lump in his throat began to throb painfully. his grip was shaky, but not as shaky as your hands who desperately needed something to hold on to.
âsorryâŚâ he let out quickly enough not to let any tear stream down his face.
âstop fucking apologizing !â you begged him, refusing to look at his face because you knew itâd make the pain ten times sharper - if that was even possible.
your mind felt like a foreign place. hate and love did not mix well in there, yet neither one could get the upper hand. they were equal for the first time.
your vision was getting blurry as kageyama released both of your wrists. you thought he was going to leave. nothing was holding him back anymore, what had to be done was done.
but he stayed. he stayed and finally gave you what you wanted: an answer
âyou think i wanted that ?â he told you with a voice in which anger and sadness mingled together. âyou think i liked feeling like an impostor every time i woke up next to you? every time you held my hand? every time people talked about you? youâre not the only one iâm disappointingâŚâ
and thatâs when a crack went through your heart. a drop of blood spread on your tongue from biting your bottom lip, leaving a metallic taste in your mouth.
kageyamaâs breath was heavy, and for a moment you wondered if it was from holding back tears. slowly but surely, you felt your anger aim for something other than him, something invisible that some people called fate, others destiny.
âiâve never wanted to see you unhappy⌠i just thought youâd feel the the same about meâ you articulated between your sobs.
kageyama was hurt, and you loved him enough to know it was true. but how could you not be mad at him? how could you not be bitter? because of him, your entire body felt stiff from the throes of heartache. no⌠not heartache. heartbreak.
âthis isnât right. youâre not even fighting for usâ you kept speaking, hopelessly trying to make him say something, anything that would ease your pain.
but kageyama remained silent, scanning every inch of your face like it was the last time, simply because he thought nothing would ever bring you back to earth.Â
there were a thousand words he wanted to tell you. he wanted you to know that he had not planned on getting tired of the way you giggled at his awkwardness, of your soft hands holding his warm and sweaty ones after practice, of the way his senses were overwhelmed by each and every one of your kisses.
âare you⌠are you dating someone else ?â you asked in a whisper.
your heart beat faster as these words got out of your mouth. you had noticed his feelings slowly disappearing, but it had never crossed your mind that there might have been someone else. and just the thought of that was enough to make you want to throw up.
ânoâ he answered right away. âthereâs not, i promise youâ
your jaw clenched. did promises still matter? words were just words after all. and if he had been able to say ÂŤ i love you Âť without meaning it, he could easily lie about everything else.
but little did you know that kageyama would have preferred that there had been someone else. and the explanation for that was really simple.
if he had cheated, then everybody would have blamed him for being an asshole. even he would have blamed himself for that. but no, his only fault in breaking up with you was to be human, someone who didnât have control of his emotions.
he knew he owed you a reason, he wanted to give you one, but there just wasnât one - apart being human.
the salty tears on your cheeks started to dry, and you took that as a sign that it was now time for goodbyes. final goodbyes. these were the hardest words you had ever had to pronounce. sure, ÂŤ words were just words Âť, but you were saying goodbye to so much more than him.
goodbye to the confidence he had built in you, goodbye to the tingly feeling in your stomach when you woke up, goodbye to knowing that someone was there for you no matter what. goodbye to your first love and everything that it implied.
kageyama knew what he was doing, he knew it was the right thing to do, for both him and you. yet he still felt the urge to wrap you in his arms one last time before letting you go.
but he didnât. he stayed still, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he watched you walk away out of his reach, and eventually disappear at the corner of the street. the exact same way the spark inside of him had disappeared.
everything had come full circle.
the memories would last, but he knew theyâd be nothing more than reminders of your luckless romance, ruins of the sturdy monument that your love once was. he knew youâd be loved again, but the crack in your heart would forever be his.

âSo?â You asked as Jason emerged from the gymâs changing room. His shoulders slumped as he dropped the duffel bag onto the floor.Â
âHe wouldnât tell me.âÂ
After RAW, Kurt pulled Jason aside and informed him that he would be in the Royal Rumble. Ever since then, Jason had been pestering his father to give him his number in the Rumble. Unsurprisingly, it hadnât worked on his fifth attempt.Â
âI told you that, dummy.âÂ
Jason only shrugged.Â
âIâm going to try again tomorrow.â He said.Â
You stared at the wrestler and shook your head in disappointment. However, you couldnât help the smile that worked its way onto your lips. It was known throughout the roster that the Royal Rumble was your favorite pay per view out of the lineup. You had some very fond memories of it, given the fact that it was the Shieldâs first pay per view together. Granted, those times were not the best for the four of you, but you looked back at it with somewhat of a rose-colored tint. However, it was also a slap to the face, considering that this was a huge reminder that the Road to Wrestlemania promotion would start after. Mania was always a busy time for not only you but the whole company.Â
It didnât help that chaos had somewhat erupted yesterday on Twitter. During Smackdown, Seth had made a tweet saying that the WWE Universe deserves a champion who actually shows up to work and heâs going to give that to them when he wins the belt. Of course, this caused Paul Heyman to respond and since Seth couldnât keep his mouth shut, he retaliated. You highly expected this to drip into RAW on Monday.Â
âHello? Earth to y/n?â Jason waving a hand in front of your face was enough to bring you out of your trance.Â
âHuh? Sorry.âÂ
âI said, Iâm about to head out. Do you need a ride?â Jason was now swinging the keys of the rental car he was given between his thumb and index finger.Â
âUh, yeah. Thanks.â You were planning on getting an Uber back, considering the fact that all three members of The Shield were currently using it to go shopping. At the start of the week, you were pretty bummed out that you wouldnât be able to go with them during their planned excursion but after Sethâs Twitter stunt, you were more than happy to attend your meeting with Jason. However, you had dinner plans with the guys. Which meant that you had to still deal with Sethâs overall presence. Well, at least you werenât rooming with him
This week, you were with Dean. Granted, after your heartâs malfunction last week, it wasnât that much better. Nothing else had happened since then, but that memory always seemed to linger in the back of your mind.Â
âAlright, letâs head out.â Jordan led you out of the gym and towards his rental car.Â

Later that night, you sat next to Roman in some fancy restaurant you had forgotten the name of. You tried to convince the boys to go to a diner, but it was Sethâs turn to choose where to eat and he wanted an expensive steak. Of course, this resulted in Dean complaining about ârich people stuffâ, which you entertained every now and then.Â
âDid you guys want to do anything special with our gear for Rumble?â Seth asked, drowning out Deanâs comments. You took a sip of your cocktail with raised brows before responding.Â
âShouldnât you have done this sooner? Itâs, like, in two weeks.âÂ
âIâve gotten gear in less time,â Seth waved off your concern as he turned to Roman and Dean. âSo, new gear?âÂ
âI mean, Romanâs idea of new gear is just changing his vest color.â Dean prodded the older male with a smirk.Â
âAt least I change my gear. Jeans and a tee-shirt can only get you so far.â Even though Roman was bickering back, there was a smile plastered across his face.
âHe kind of has you there, Dean.â You chuckled. âI think it would be nice for you guys to correlate your gear in some way to showcase that weâre still a stable even though youâre doing different stuff.âÂ
âYouâre in on this too.â Sethâs words made your nose crinkle. Since the formation of the Shield, your gear has stayed the same. Even as the manager of both The New Day and Dolph Ziggler, your gear has roughly been the same style, just different color variations in order to fit with your clientâs colors. Really the only difference was your leather jacket was swapped with a bomber jacket when you were with The New Day. You felt comfortable with the way you presented yourself via clothing.Â
âI donât know about that.âÂ
âOh come on, it might be cool.â Romanâs words weighed on you.Â
âFine.â You grumbled in response.Â
âWe could always bring back the vests.â Seth propositioned. You immediately shook your head.Â
âAbsolutely not. Ro could take it, but every time you and Dean put on those vests, you guys complain about how uncomfortable they are. Iâm not dealing with that again.â Even though it felt weird to see the gang in their own gear when you divided them, it did stop this from happening.Â
âFine. No vests.â Seth grumbled. âWe can just figure out a way to match.âÂ
âHow about we use the Cerberus heads?â Dean asked. Oh no. The Cerberus heads had always been a sore subject amongst the four of you. The Cerberus logo was created by WWEâs marketing team shortly after the group had obtained the âHounds of Justiceâ moniker. Subsequently, it was then put on most of the factionâs merchandise. Roman was the most vocal about his feelings towards the icon. He didnât like how it only represented the three men of the group and failed to include you in any way, shape, or form. Dean thought the logo was cool and was very on-brand with the Shield aesthetic. Seth never really put a firm stance on the subject.Â
âIâm alright with using it,â You managed to get your opinion in before Roman opened his mouth. Despite this conflict lasting years, the symbol didnât really bother you. You agreed with Dean that it fit the overall reputation of the group, but you also thought it was insanely sweet of Roman to stick up for you.Â
âAre you sure?â Roman questioned, which caused you to nod.Â
âAlright, Cerberus it is,â Seth affirmed. âNow we just gotta figure out how to incorporate it.âÂ
âI mean...Iâm probably just going to put it on my ves-â Before Roman could even finish his sentence, Dean cut him off.Â
âWow. Your vest? What a shocker. Innovate, even. Fashion icon of the year, everyone.â This earned him a glare by Roman.Â
âHaha, very funny. What are you going to do? Huh?âÂ
âWell, thatâs easy. Iâm-shit, what am I going to do?â Deanâs smile quickly dropped. Roman chuckled before you came up with an idea.Â
âWell, I still have those Shield patches they gave us. Maybe you could put them on the pockets of your jeans? Small, but noticeable.âÂ
âYou still have those? And travel with them?â Seth questioned. When the merch department first made the patches back when the Shield was at its peak, they had given you roughly ten for promotional purposes. Now, even years later, you still kept four in your backpack. You werenât exactly sure why, you just never remembered to take them out when you were home.Â
âI meanâŚit would make people look at my ass,â Dean commented, seemingly approving of the patch idea. You just rolled your eyes, ignoring both of their comments.Â
âRollins, do you have any ideas for your gear?âÂ
âYeah,â He answered almost a little too excitedly for your liking. âKnow my Deadpool gear?â Within the last couple of years, Seth had been modeling his gear off of some of his favorite comics and television series.Â
âThatâs the one you wore during your and Deanâs championship run, right?â You asked. Seth nodded.Â
âYeah. I had my crosshair logo on the side of my thigh. Iâm probably going to put the Cerberus logo in the same spot and change the red details to blue.â You were slightly happy that none of the guys came up with out-of-the-box crazy gear ideas. With the amount of time you had to order them, it was good they stuck to alterations to their normal gear. With that all settled, you took out your phone and wrote down reminders to yourself.Â
âSounds good. When we get back, Iâll get the patches so we can iron them onto Deanâs jeans. Ro and Rollins, if you want to give me the contact information for the people who make your gear, I can give them both a call and arrange something.â While you tapped away on your phone, Seth decided to bring up your outfit. You didnât know why he was pushing the concept of you joining in on this, but you had already agreed to it.Â
âHow about you?â
âI have zero clue.â You admitted. Seth had a familiar glint in his eye, which indicated that even if you didnât know, he did. âAlright. Spill.â The brunette shifted in his seat, somewhat happy you recognized that he had an idea.Â
âDo you own a denim jacket?âÂ
âNo...why?â You eyed him suspiciously.Â
âA friend of mine who works in the gorilla is an amazing painter. She does these really cool designs on the back of denim jackets. She could probably whip up something really cool with the Cerberus logo on the back.â You had to admit, the concept was intriguing. It also made sense considering the fact your back was facing the crowd almost eighty percent of the time.Â
âI have an old denim jacket that you can use.â Dean suddenly interjected.Â
âI donât want to take your stuff, Dean.â You attempted to refuse his offer, but he simply shrugged at your words.
âTake it. I keep bringing it on the road thinking Iâm going to wear it someday, but itâs been two years at this point. Plus, I donât think it even fits me anymore.â You begrudgingly accepted, mumbling a small thank you to the older male.Â
âItâs settled then. I'll text Jessie and see if she can do it.â You watched as Seth excitedly got out his phone and tapped away on it. You were somewhat intrigued about how the final products would look like a cohesive unit, but you tried to hide the way Sethâs excitement was rubbing off on you.Â
* * *
On Monday, you stood in the gorilla side-by-side with Seth. The monitor in front of you depicted Paul Heyman and Brock Lesner in the ring, talking about the Twitter feud Paul and Seth had.Â
âWe should probably go out there, huh?â Seth asked as he tore his attention away from the screen. You stared up at the television for a few more seconds then sighed.
âYeah, I guess.â As you and Seth made your way to the ramp, you felt a sense of dread bubble up inside of your stomach. Paul Heyman was a legend for multiple reasons, but on the top of the list was possibly his reputation as one of, if not the best, manager in WWE history. It didnât help that this would be your first time going head-to-head with him. However, you knew that all three of the Shield boys had a previous history with him and Brock. By the time you had approached the black curtain that separated the gorilla from the rest of the arena, you could hear Paulâs voice loud and clear.Â
âYou see that belt? That WWE Universal Championship belt?â Paulâs voice boomed from the ring. âBy winning that belt, earning that belt, Brock has proved himself! He doesnât have to show up every single week because heâs already put in the time and effort. Know what Seth Rollins has proved? Nothing. Absolutely-â Sethâs music rang out through the arena, causing Paul to pause and look at the ramp in anticipation. When you and Seth walk out, you see Brock cracking his neck. You do your best to ignore the image and bring the microphone you were holding up to your lips.Â
âY'know Paul, as much as I would love to agree with you, youâre wrong. Rollins has proved himself time and time again throughout the years. Not to mention, Rollins beat both Samoa Joe and Elias within the past two weeks. Brock Lesner hasnât had a match in three months. If everyone took time off when they âproved themselvesâ, more than half of the locker room would be inactive.âÂ
âThat title doesnât mean you just get to sit there and do nothing. If anything, that means you work harder,â You didnât know Seth even had a microphone until this point, which made you inwardly groan. You were so focused on this, that you didnât even notice that he had begun walking down the ramp until he was halfway down it. You tried your best not to let out a shocked noise and ventured after him. âYou donât just give up and turn your back on the WWE Universe. Hell, if I was the WWE Universal Champion, I would work my ass off to give the people the champion they want. What they deserve.âÂ
âWell, we all know you donât have the best track record when it comes to promises, Mr. Rollins.â Paulâs words stung, but you managed to suppress your feelings on the matter. âHasnât Brock defeated you and yourâŚbrothersâŚ,â Paul added very prominent air quotes around the word brothers. âEnough over the last few years? What makes this time different?â You opened your mouth to respond, but before you could, Seth jumped to his own defense.Â
âFirstly, I have a fire lit under my ass. Second, I have her.â Seth jerked his thumb in your direction. You looked at him with furrowed brows, not exactly sure how to take the compliment. Around the arena, you saw members of the staff shift uncomfortably. According to the timecard, the first match should have started by now. You wondered if anyone actually knew that Brock would be showing up for work that day. Anxious for both this match to be locked in place for Royal Rumble and the show to continue, you decided to make your move.Â
âWell, if youâre so sure Brock is going to win, thereâs no risk in having a match. Brock. Rollins. Royal Rumble. The winner gets the title.â Despite the nonchalant tone in your voice, you could feel the hold on your mic tighten. Paul opened his mouth to reply, but he quickly shut it upon Brock speaking to him. You couldnât tell what he had said since the wrestler didnât have a microphone in his grasp, but Paulâs contorted look told you it wasnât something the two agreed on. Paul seemed to shoot Brock a look before he reverted his attention back at you and Seth.Â
âSeth just earned himself a one-way ticket to Suplex City.â With that, the crowd erupted in various cheers. As Sethâs music hit, you heard the faint inklings of a âSlay the Beastâ chant starting.Â
* * *
The two of you had barely entered backstage when you saw the giant smile plastered across Sethâs face. Upon you noticing, it only seemed to get wider.Â
âSee?â Seth extended his arms. âWe still got to the same endpoint that we wanted. Itâs amazing what a Tweet can do.â You only narrowed your eyes at him.Â
âYouâre insufferable, Rollins. Normally, when someone says they have a plan, it doesnât mean you can just go off and do your own thing!â
âWell, my plan was the one that worked.â He looked way too proud at that moment.Â
âYouâve got to be kidding me. Iâm the one who proposed you go after Brock in the fir-â You quickly decided that there was no point in arguing with him when he was like this. âAnyway, did Dean give you the jacket, by the way?â You had watched Dean sort through his bags for roughly a half-hour last night until he had pulled out a light blue denim jacket you would be using for your new custom gear.Â
âYeah, I dropped it off to Jessie before the show started. She said itâll be done the day of the Rumble.âÂ
âAlright. I sent out the email for your gear the other night, still waiting for an answer but Iâll let you know when they get back to me.â You explained. Seth nodded. âWhatâs your plan now that you have the whole night off?â Due to this whole fiasco, you didnât bother booking a match for Seth tonight, which actually helped in the long run.Â
âIâm going to do some weight training and then probably take a nap, didnât get much sleep last night.â You shot him a questioning look, mentally hoping everything was okay. Seth must have somehow felt your uneasiness because he was quick to explain. âRo and I were playing Call of Duty until four.â Your worrying thoughts shut off like a switch as you glared at him.Â
âAgain. Insufferable.âÂ
âAnd you wouldnât have it any other way, right?â Seth teased.Â
âWhatever, Rollins.â You quickly turned on your heel and made your way to catering in order to suppress the urge to agree with him.Â
The moment you had stepped into catering, you saw the familiar figure of Finn sitting alone at one of the tables. You grab a water bottle and a pudding cup before making your way over to him.Â
âOne match down, huh?â Finn smiled as you sat down in the white fold out chair across from him.Â
âActually two,â You dropped your voice just low enough for only him to hear. âJasonâs in the Rumble.âÂ
âOh, really?â Finn asked. You nodded and opened your pudding cup.Â
âHowâs the IC title going, by the way?â Upon your question, Finnâs mouth molded itself into a frown. âThat bad?âÂ
âCompletely nonexistent. Thereâs not an IC match because Kevinâs too busy trying to help Sami with his feud.â For the last couple of weeks, Kevin Owen and Sami Zayn had managed to rekindle their on-and-off-again friendship, which was extremely impressive considering they were on separate brands. No one was exactly sure if Kevin was officially moved over to the Smackdown show, or if he was just squatting there until Shane McMahon found someone else to pick on. âI was placed in the Rumble.âÂ
âI mean, at least itâs something, right?â You shot Finn a smile just as you feel your phone vibrate in your back pocket. You quickly fish it out and see a text from Jason on the lockscreen.Â
From: Jason Jordan
Heads up. You might wanna pay attention to the next segment.Â
You looked up at the television that was fixated onto the wall to your right just in time to see Kurt Angle standing next to a monitor with the words âTriple Threatâ written across it.Â
âIn order to figure who will be going up against The Bar at Royal Rumble, weâll be having a triple threat match tonight between the Shield, Gallows and Anderson, and the Revival.â With that, the screen transitioned to the card graphic with all three teams on it, and Michael Coleâs voice basically reiterating what Kurt said, along with the usual comment from Corey Graves. They also mentioned that that current champions, The Bar, would be watching from the sidelines. Thankfully this didnât jumble up your plans too much, considering Roman and Dean had a match against The Revival planned anyway. And knowing how this industry worked, you had a feeling that match was no longer going to happen so the tension could be more prominent during the triple threat.Â
âWhy canât anything just go according to plan?â You mumbled as you crossed your arms. Deep down, you knew that this was for the best. Due to the fact the contract signings were happening the next week, your plan had basically failed already. When you had originally made the binder, you hadnât factored in managing the GMâs son. You had a feeling this triple threat was Kurtâs way of realizing this. After all, Kurt did say he would try his best to get all of the guys the opportunities they would need to align them with title matches.Â
You knew it wasn't right, but you knew it wasnât exactly wrong either. When you had first entered the industry, you knew practically nothing about it. Thus, you didnât realize exactly how cutthroat it could be until you were thrown to the wolves and stumbled throughout the whole first year of the Shieldâs assembly. When the four of you agreed to protect against injustice, you had actually meant it. While others around you fought dirty and did everything they could to tear you down, you had always tried to take the high road. Even after you had one of your own showcase that same injustice you were trying to fight against. After years of dealing with seeing the malice, others can create, striking up a deal with Kurt just to open a few more doorways of chance was probably the most harmless thing you could have done.Â
âHey, at least theyâre the main event now.â Finn let out a hearty laugh, which distracted you from the sinking feeling inside of your chest.
* * *
After a short conversation with Alexa about the match she had earlier that night, you found yourself searching the gorilla front-to-back for Roman and Dean. You eventually found them standing towards the entrance. As you approached, you noticed Seth was with them too.Â
âSpeaking of y/n,â Seth commented when you joined the group. You furrowed your brows and looked between the three men.Â
âShould I be scared?âÂ
âNo,â Roman responded.Â
âYes,â Dean quickly answered at the same time. You stood there for a second in a dumbfounded manner and ran a hand over your face.Â
âKnow what? I donât even want to know.â You quickly reverted the subject to something else. âAre you guys ready for your match?âÂ
âYeah, all set,â Roman said and was accompanied by a nod from Dean.Â
âYou guys are going to kill it.â Seth smiled at his faction members.Â
âDo you want to stand ringside with me?â Seth seemed taken back by your question. You knew it must have been hard on the guys to break apart from one another after just gaining momentum. Hopefully, their championships would ride them out through Wrestlemania and until Summerslam. You definitely didnât want to reunite them too soon, but it wouldnât be the end of the world if they lost their titles after a few months of having them. Until then, you wanted to make the distance less awkward for them.Â
âNah,â Seth surprisingly shook his head. âI donât want to end up costing them the match if something ticks me off.â On one hand, you wouldnât have put it past the Revival to use Seth as a weak point. On the other, it would have been nice not to be the one dodging wrestlers for a change.Â
âSuit yourself.âÂ
It wasnât long until The Revivalâs music could be heard throughout the arena. Seth bid you three goodbye then exited the gorilla, mumbling something about getting a decent vanilla latte. You didnât question this, it was known even outside of your little circle that Seth was a coffee connoisseur. He was always complaining about the coffee in catering. The next music to hit belonged to Gallows and Anderson. As they headed down the ramp, the three of you walked over to the curtain.Â
âYou guys ready to get a Rumble match?â Dean asked as he stretched.Â
âWhy should I be ready? Itâs riding on you two,â You commented nonchalantly. Roman raised an eyebrow at this.
âSo it wouldnât affect you, or our win, in any way if I managed to somehow lead Dawson towards your direction?â You narrowed your eyes at him.Â
âYou wouldnât dare.â
âYouâre right, he wouldnât,â Dean smirked. âBut I would.â
AmbroseâŚâ You gave Dean a glare, who casually threw his hands up in defense just as his music hit. With the blink of an eye, he scooted behind the curtain and out onto the ramp, leaving you and Roman standing there. Not even a moment later, Romanâs music played.Â
When the three of you stood on the stage, the crowd erupted in cheers. Granted, they werenât as nearly as loud as when Seth was with the group. Yet, matter how many times you had heard the fans screaming, it always put a smile on your face. It was a sound for sore ears, considering the fact you had been booed every single night when you walked out with Dolph.Â
The three of you headed down towards the ramp and entered the ring. As usual, you gave Gallows and Anderson a friendly smile. Before anything else could happen, The Barâs theme began to play. The pair eventually climbed into the ring and held the titles over their head. You watched from your position of leaning on the ropes as all six men eyed the belts. You pushed off of the ropes and stood in between Dean and Roman.Â
âYou guys got this,â You gave them both large smiles and placed a hand on each one of their shoulders. This managed to catch Romanâs attention since he looked down at you and nodded. However, Dean seemed fixated on The Bar. When Sheamus and Cesaro got out of the ring, you did the same. The two men sat down at the two chairs near ringside, their attention focused on the match that was about to start.Â
It wasnât until the ref had asked the guys to get ready when Dean finally broke from his trance. You looked at him with a worried expression.Â
âShould I go first?â Roman asked as he roughly patted Deanâs back. Dean grunted out a response before he climbed out onto the apron. You heard the bell ring, signifying the start of the match. The first two up were Roman and Dawson, both starting strong. In the opposite corner from you, Gallows and Anderson fidgeted as they awaited their opportunity. Most of the time in triple threats, you had to look out for unsuspecting tags from members of the opposing teams. It might just make more sense to tag in someone not on your team to get you and your teammate time to rest. Other times, it was about tagging yourself in when the person near the ropes was preoccupied. Your gaze shifted from Roman to Dean. You quickly shouted out advice to Roman, who had Dawson in a headlock.Â
âDonât let him get you near the ropes!â Romanâs side glance was enough to tell you he understood. With that settled, you crossed your arms and turned to Dean. âWhatâs up with you?â Deanâs nose scrunched up at your accusatory tone. Yet, his eyes didnât leave the match.Â
âNothing?âÂ
âUh-huh,â You looked back over to where Roman was. Dawson had broken out from the attack and was now attempting to twist Romanâs arm behind his back. You shouted words of encouragement to the Samoan before turning back to your conversation. âSpill.âÂ
âI just wanna wipe those smug looks off of their faces, thatâs all.â Dean cocked his head in the direction of Sheamus and Cesaro, who watched the match intently with the belts still firmly in their hands. âNow will you stop being annoying so I can focus on the match?â There was no sound of malice in his voice, despite the hard look his face had contorted into. His eyes were trained on the movements of Dawson. Even though you werenât quite satisfied with his answer, you decided not to press further.
Not even ten minutes later, the match had gone to hell. Not that you didnât suspect this, just not this quickly. Roman managed to go for the pin on Dawson, but Anderson had broken it up since they hadnât gotten a turn yet. This caused Dean to go after him, resulting in a brawl on the floor. This led to Gallows running over to help his partner. During the commotion, Dawson tagged in Wilder. You watched all of this with furrowed eyebrows, unsure of what to do. You let out a large sigh of relief when you saw Dean quickly bounce up to his feet after laying out both Bullet Club members. You werenât quite sure how the lunatic had been able to do it, but you were glad he did. Â
In the blink of an eye, Dean ran over and touched Romanâs back, making him the legal man. This went unnoticed as Dawson and Wilder continued to attack Roman. A large smile spread on your face as Roman pushed Dawson towards the ropes, giving Dean room to pin Wilder. In one fell swoop, Dean performed Dirty Deeds. You watched in awe as the ref started the three count.
One! Â
Gallows and Anderson were both on the outskirts of the ring, unable to get up as they groaned in pain.Â
Two!Â
Roman still had Dawson sequestered in the corner of the ring.Â
Three!
And just like that, it was over. The Shield had officially earned themselves a shot for the tag-team title at Royal Rumble. You quickly rushed into the ring to celebrate with Roman and Dean. Dawson glared at the three of you as he helped up Wilder. You went to go congratulate Dean but stopped when you saw him staring at Cesaro and Sheamus. Both men were now up on their feet, with their titles slung over their shoulders. Both gave equally deadly glares towards Dean and Roman. By this point, Roman had joined in on the staring contest. Once the Shieldâs music hit, Sheamus and Cesaro headed up the ramp, leaving the three of you to celebrate in peace. _______________________________________________________________

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Malavai Quinn and his estranged wife, Xhareen, are forced to work together after three years of a bitter separation when Quinn's sister Kayda is kidnapped. Can they overcome their anger long enough to save her, and themselves?
Archive warnings for major character death and thereâs gonna be some rough, angry sex. Consensual, but well past my own tolerance for the rough stuff. Appropriate chapter will be noted.Â
This is an alternate universe where my Sith Warrior Xhareen does not forgive Quinn for his betrayal. She dumps him off back on Dromund Kaas, but does not annul their marriage. They live as separate as they can, until a family tragedy comes calling.Â
Iâm writing and publishing this because Iâm concerned about my other WIP, the spy AU, and that Quinn isnât quite Quinn enough. Which is weird, because writing Quinn is the easiest thing for me -- I usually have no trouble crawling inside that tormented brain of his. Be warned, this is gonna be an angsty ride. The eventual ending, though, will be happy. Happy adjacent, maybe?Â
