Whether or not it was on purpose or accident, HYV writing Amber as Diluc's foil makes me very happy. Like, Amber and Diluc were both betrayed by the KOF and both took an opposite yet equal response to it. Like GAH — I get so emotional about their writing.

For simplicity, I'm calling Amber's grandfather as "Gramps" just to make it less wordy than "Amber's grandfather".

Foil Connection

0️⃣ Amber shares a similar color scheme (pre-alt) with 18 y/o Diluc before his dark aesthetic transition (potentially his mourning clothes).

1️⃣ Amber was a Klee before Klee, with Gramps apologizing on her behalf. Diluc was a well-manner prodigy who brought pride to his father's (family) name.

2️⃣ Both Crepus & Gramps have an influence and legacy with the KOF. Coincidentally, died/disappeared in the same time frame.

3️⃣ Despite that KOF influence/legacy — the KOF were quick to betray their families.

Insisting on silencing the true attack/death of Crepus because it made the KOF look bad to their people.

YET, they are openly insulting Gramps' name and background in his disappearance.

4️⃣ Amber was explicitly written as a witness to Diluc's meeting with the KOF when waiting for her grandfather.

In the same yet opposite vain, Diluc was still a knight before his meeting. It can be assumed he had heard the Knights' gossip surrounding Gramps' character.

5️⃣ Diluc chose to leave the KOF in honor of/being closer to his father. Amber joins the KOF to be closer to/honor Gramps.

6️⃣ Diluc and Amber are currently honoring their paternal figure's legacy and looking for answers about their paternal figure's life.

Both are Pyro users who received their visions in the thought of their paternal figure.

7️⃣ Diluc endures a personality change. He no longer wears his heart on his sleeve. Instead, he shields it by passively expressing it.

Amber has no change in her personality, she wears her heart on her sleeves and is its shield by being outspoken.

8️⃣ Both take on new beliefs in their view of what is right, wrong, lawful, or lawless.

Diluc takes the law into his hands, removing the image of law enforcement itself.

Amber takes the law into her hands, wanting to improve the image of law enforcement itself.

9️⃣ They're both associated with stealth missions with the irony that Diluc, an owl constellation, is more associated with working the undergrounds while Amber, a rabbit constellation, is more associated with flying/gliding.

🔟 Diluc nags Kaeya for getting too involved and Amber nags Kaeya for not getting involved.

1️⃣1️⃣ Diluc and Amber share 70% of their ascension materials with one another (meta answers of "that's what was available in the time of development" is boring and will be ignored.)

Like, I can't say if HYV did this intentionally BUT the writing is so strong here. I genuinely do not feel that I'm reaching in comparing the two like this. (ฅ´ω`ฅ)~ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚

My only question is … 👀 Would Diluc blame Amber's grandfather in leading to his father's death?
