A loud scream somewhere in the woods makes Jonny drop the book in his hands, and he presses it close to his chest as his heart hammers loudly in his ears.

“Aminimii!”

The spawn isn’t far away. Maybe if he gets there quickly he can help out, they can look through the book properly together and see if they can figure it out. If the beginning of the book is true...

Jonny moves to press the button to go outside, but pauses when he hears someone yelling and running. Aminimii. And something is following him.

He should move. He should move and help Aminimii. But his body is refusing to move, hand hovering over the button that will let him out of this barricaded library. Instead of getting out and help Aminimii, he stands frozen and he hears them come closer and closer.

He hears how Aminimii runs past the building, hears the heavy breathing as he must take a break from running. He doesn’t hear anything else for a brief moment, and he still can’t move his body, and-

Another desperate scream comes from Aminimii and Jonny hears how he starts running again, only for something big following him. And an inhuman roars echoes through the forest and shakes Jonny’s bones, despite how he knows that that thing isn’t chasing him. It’s chasing Aminimii.

Fuck. It’s chasing Aminimii.

At once Jonny finds strength to move and he pushes down the button, slipping through the door the moment it was open just enough.

He has to hurry. If what the book is true, (it has to be, with those roars), then he only has moments to act.

It feels like it takes forever for him to run through the forest to the spawn, and it’s with a mixture of relief and anxiety that he arrives by the box surrounded by the red torches. He doesn’t waste a second to open the book to flick through it, speedreading it through to find any sort of solution.

But he freezes once he reads the words.

His heart beats in his chest. His breaths are slow and shaky. His knees feel weak.

He don’t want to do it.

Jonny curses and grabs his hair in frustration as he starts to walk in a circle.

He don’t want to do it.

But the book says-

He stops when he hears his name getting yelled in the distance followed by roars and more screams. And when he looks up, he sees Aminimii running through the trees with something big behind him.

According to the book, there’s only one thing that can stop it. He don’t want to do it.

But Aminimii is going to die otherwise. More will die otherwise.

Jonny backs up as he steels his nerves, seeing how the monster gains on Aminimii in the corner of his eyes as his friend is yelling his name. He takes a few running steps.
