Well, we knew this was coming but as of today Americorp has been ordered to cease all activity and all our federal funding has been cut. This doesn't mean it's over, idk about the other Americorp programs, but at least WCC has some funding through the state. We are losing our Education Awards, which is the only reason the below minimum wage pay is worth it. Many young people were counting on the ed award to be able to attend college that they wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. Our program is going to fight to get us prorated ed awards, meaning they would have to give us some of the money equeal to the amount of hours we've already served, but not the full amount.
The ed award is also used to dangle in front of members to encourage us to finish our full term, and without it many people (probably including me) will leave to get better jobs. Our feild only really hires in spring and summer, so it's quite awful for it to end in Sept which doesn't give us many options. Without the promised ed award, there is no reason to stay till Sept.
I'm sorry to NCCC who already got shut down completely. It might not be completely over, I am lucky that WA is such a blue state, and several law suits are happening, so who knows what will happen. I am extremely distraught, I hope other Americorp members are taking it easy and I hope the world sends something good to you all.

I quit my job and I am going to do service for an underserved community in Southern Colorado for the summer. I will helping with disaster preparedness and preventing summer learning loss throughout the community.
If anyone would like to help me survive since my living stipend will be at the poverty line I would really appreciate it. It is a 22 hour drive from Georgia to Southern Colorado so I would really love some help with driving expenses. Super excited to make this change and do something to help people who really need it.

I will be doing a year with Americorp’s City Year starting in a few weeks. Because we are working in schools, there seems to be a fairly strict dress code and uniform. In order to comply, I will be wearing a City Year polo and black pants and shoes. I have a pair of black pants but wanted to stock up on a few more so that I’m not constantly doing laundry or wearing dirty clothes.
