The Trick is to Keep Breathing || Self Para
Most of all I'm thankful, you are just what I prayed for you are what I was made for, I'm for sure.
Amber woke up from what felt like her fiftieth nap today. yhe past week had been a long one to say the least. But they were finally in the new house and she was in her old bed, at least until the new one was delivered sometime next week. Just in time for the baby. She rolled over, waking up to the dull pain in her lower back that she had been experiencing on and off for the past week or so. Next to her she found a scribbled note from Chase ‘Walking the dogs around the new neighborhood, we’ll order tacos when I get back. Love you’
She hadn’t known how long he’d been gone but rolling over pushing blonde hair from her eyes she looked at her phone, seeing that it was late in the afternoon. Usual walks with the dogs lasted about an hour but since this was a new neighborhood she figured he may take a little bit more time.  She climbed herself out of bed and as she did the pain shot up from her back, her pelvic area felt heavier and there was a sharp pain there now too. Her doctor's words from yesterday rang in her head "If it gets more than dull, call me. Or come in"
This was a definitely more than dull. She held on to the sides of her bed and then the wall as she carefully made her way down the hall and to the stairway. Before she called her doctor she wanted to call Chase. She certainly couldn't drive on her own and if she needed to go to the hospital she'd need someone to drive.
A slow careful walk down the stairs and into the living room. She made her way around to where her phone had been on the coffee table and next to hers she saw Chase's phone. "Fuck" she said, a sigh followed by a deep breath at the uncomfortable pain as she sat down. She picked up her phone unlocking it. She would just have to call someone else. Whitney , Debby, Hayley maybe. Luck of the draw. Hopefully Chase would walk through that door any second and she wouldn't need any of them at all. But she scrolled through her text and figured her quickest response would be from Debby, who was also closer to her now than Whitney, so she shot a quick text of "I think your nephew is coming. Can you come get me please?" and sat her phone down in her lap. She leaned back into the sofa a hand pressing on her stomach softly. Hoping she could relieve a bit of the pressure. A moment later her phone buzzed with a text she assumed was from Debby. Picking it up "Where is my idiot brother? Holy shit." As she went to respond a second text came through "I'm on my way" . She sat her phone down again and shifted on the couch. Hand rubbing over her belly again.
"I guess we're gonna see you soon, kid" she said softly. She picked up her phone again sending Chase a quick text to let him know what was up. Just in case. As she sunk back into the couch, the familiar sound of a dog tags and leashes rang off in the distance. Followed by the clanking of keys. A sigh of relief escaped her as the dogs ran inside. Chase led them to their bowls in their new location before he came back out to greet Amber, a kiss on the forehead. "Hey you" When she didn't say anything he pulled away from her "You good?" Amber ran a stressed hand through her blonde hair "Your son is coming Chase" she said, voice shaking. Chase's eyes widened followed by a series of half asked questions. Amber shook her head "Just go get the hospital bag and let's get out of here please. I feel like my body is being torn apart"
Amber pushed her way from the couch, swiping Chase's phone from the table too. Holding on to whatever she could with her free hand she made her way to the front door, sliding on her sandals. An unexpected trickling of liquid slid down her leg. It was definitely time. Her husband, looking anxious, emerged from the steps bag and car keys in hand. "Let's go have a baby" he said, twisting the door opened.
Amber followed, carefully, slowly behind him. Climbing into the new suv she had gotten him as a birthday gift. Thankful that it had finally arrived this week.
"Leave it to your son to come on Leap Day" Chase said as they pulled out of the drive and sped off toward the hospital. Amber let out a breathy laugh, trying not to exert too much. She leaned back in her seat as Chase weaved the best he could through traffic. The following 30 minutes to the hospital were filled with Chase's chatter and Amber texting nervously to Debby, who she had to tell to reroute to the hospital, Hayley and Whitney. She would have Chase get in touch with Liam if he hadn't already. Thankfully China had flown in as well so almost everyone she loved was here in one place. Amber had managed to keep her mind off the pain but as soon as they got out of the car, it was there again. She leaned on Chase as they made their way through the door.
Chase sat her in the first chair he saw and ran to a familiar nurse informing them that they were having the baby. A few moments later a new nurse and a wheelchair arrived. Amber moved from chair to chair and was slowly rolled to the room.
"Climb on up their, we'll go grab your paper work and Doctor K for you. Congratulations" the nurse said.
A smile on her face for the first time in the past few hours, as she climbed into the bed. "Chase. We're about to have a son."
Chase kissed her forehead. "A leap baby."
She laughed at the thought of it all because it wad just so HER but it was getting late in the day. Hopefully in a few short hours she would meet her kid and be able to celebrate his unbirthday with him for the next four years.
