Based on this recipe, I let the lotus root sit in vinegar water, then tossed it in a bowl of potato starch until coated, and fried it in sesame oil with a 1:1:>1 mix of soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar. Also threw in some chili flake and topped it with chopped cilantro, on a whim. Really delicious. Reeeally crunchy.

So the soldier is Travers (who I've talked about before). The other guy is Amazu, who is a "spirit" of sorts and part of a trio of ghosts called the Band (equivalent to the Pub Thugs).
In the episode, the red rocks only affect living humans (not ghosts or whatever Amazu is). Travers, however, has been doing business as usual all day, running the stuff for the show and keeping things going as smoothly as possible. He seems like he's unaffected, or else completely fearless.
But, as Amazu discovers, that couldn't be further from the truth...
