Well... this is a bit of a strange post to make for me.
I honestly haven't drawn in ages. Ever since I got into 3D art with DAZ Studio back in 2010, it almost feels like I never did this before. I've probably shared an older sketch years ago, but the funny part is that drawing used to be a huge part of my life.
[long post incoming]
Oof, I don't even know where and how to start. Maybe with a lil backstory to this topic:
Back in the 90s, when I came home from school, the first thing I did definitely wasn't homework (ofc not). I filled sketchbooks (and especially my math notebook) with Super Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, dragons, other fantasy creatures, anime characters (a lot of Pokémon related stuff) and so much more...
I didn't grow up with digital art the way many people do today, but more with traditional drawing. My journey started with simple pencils and paper. Later, in my twenties, I fell in love with charcoal and black&white portrait work. Then, around the age of 25, I met a person (today my best friend) who introduced me to digital art and 3D modeling. DAZ Studio completely changed my creative direction, and before I knew it, drawing slowly faded into the background, sadly.
Over the years, other creative hobbies followed. Photography became a passion, especially macro photography, animals, landscapes, and architecture. Later came TS modding, which is actually one of the newest additions to the list. I've been doing that since around 2019.
Somewhere along the way, I became fascinated with learning how things work "behind the scenes", talking about video games in particular. The more there was to learn, the less likely I was to get bored, especially when it came to my free time. And believe me, there's nothing worse for me than not knowing what to do next. At the same time, I just wanna relax. I'm very prone to creative burnout. x_x
But creativity can be quite a strange thing. At some point there were simply too many projects, too many ideas, and too many real life responsibilities competing for attention. Little by little, things ended up buried in [virtual] folders. And somehow, drawing became one of those forgotten things (collection of forgotten things is growing).
Well, Until now.
I recently had a chat with my long-time friend (ironically, exactly the very same friend who introduced me to 3D art), and we ended up talking about the good old days. You know, the kind of conversation that makes you realize you're not getting any younger. After that pleasant conversation, I found myself sitting there with a cup of peppermint tea in one hand and the phone's pen in the other. Then finally, I just downloaded a drawing app and... Amaranthine happened.
So this feels a little bit like meeting an old friend again after many, many years apart. It's a strangely bittersweet feeling somehow.
I'm definitely rusty when it comes to drawing, so don't expect too much just yet. ^^"
About this lil sketch and character story:
This is a work in progress featuring Amaranthine, one of my ESO characters and the one I'm currently travelling Tamriel with. She gets regularly possessed by the Daedric Prince of Madness, who at one point also dragged her into his realm. Those who have met her often speak of strange coincidences, conversations with voices no one else can hear and sudden bouts of delirium. Some whisper that Amaranthine now serves as the Mad God's messenger in Tamriel. Amaranthine herself claims she once had another name, though she can no longer recall it.
I've included some reference screenshot so you can get to know her a little better. Here is also an animated GIF showing her alongside some of my other ESO characters.
Well, let's see where the winds take me. I definitely want to finish this drawing. I've got a bit of spare time at the moment, so I'll probably dedicate some of it to this little project.
Funny enough, hubby has never seen me draw before. He's much more fond of traditional art than digital art (I do like both tbh), but he seems genuinely interested to see where this goes.
Little Edit: here are other wips of her.
More Wips: here and here.
I recently finished reading the short story of Jayce and Viktor from League of Legends.
I want Naph and Amaranthine to interact with characters in Arcane🥺
