The Sanctuary of Xoai is a tower that has been preserved with each familial successor inheriting the sanctuary along with the erudite responsibilities that accompany such an important role. Such a prestigious position has been inherited for countless millennia; the current sage is Mortimer Douglas [94]. At Mortimer’s age he seeks to find a worthy successor, someone who is worthy of supervising and leading Xoai. Of course, many suspect that naturally Mortimer would have chosen his son, Alvarro Douglas [53]. Just as the sages had done prior. Yet Mortimer is nearing his mid-90s and many would have expected the successor to have been already chosen, yet the hesitancy suggests that Mortimer does not deem Alvarro as a worthy successor to the Sanctuary of Xoai.

An outsider by the name of Iżyłowski [25] was chosen instead much to the outrage of both Alvarro and Caroline [44] and to the confusion of Beverly Douglas [25]. Of course, Alvarro is rather cross because he felt that he was the natural successor, Caroline (Alvarro’s wife) is rather irked because she felt that Iżyłowski had stolen a part of the family legacy, and Beverly felt very confused because she only knew the successors of the sanctuary to be those who are older than her, not the same age as her.

Yet it was abundantly clear that Alvarro was very angry at Iżyłowski, as in the perspective of Alvarro, this was meant to be a position that he would have inherited, just as Mortimer inherited this position from his father. Contrastingly, Caroline didn't even want to talk to Iżyłowski and looked genuinely annoyed whenever Iżyłowski tried to reason with her. Yet it was Beverly who seemed to most curious, if not fascinated by the prospect of a Sage being her age. While she was never a huge history enthusiast, the parts of Xaoi's history she did manage to read never had sages that young. Before Iżyłowski, the youngest Sage was 45, even then, that was noteworthy. Thus, while Beverly was certainly shocked by these events, she holds no ill will towards Iżyłowski.

Iżyłowski was of course honored to have been given such a prestigious position, a position he intended to take seriously. Yet such a decision was a very controversial one as Alvarro had angry objections to which Mortimer only replied, “Son, you are magically talented, yet it is clear that your talents are better utilized elsewhere.” Caroline too angrily objected to which Mortimer said, “Iżyłowski has magical knowledge and mastery unlike anyone his age, that I’ve ever witnessed. The Sanctuary of Xoai needs his talents.” Unlike her parents, Beverly didn’t have much to say and instead wasn’t too entirely sure how to feel about this...

I know this is late my love, but when it comes to you, everything is so much more difficult, a point I know you often take pride in, but I will still try to show you how I love you.

Al. Alvarro, my own guardian. I love you as you are the sun. However, you are not the blistering, sweltering sun of a hot summer's day. No, you are the kind, gentle reprieve in a spring evening after a day of rain. You may sometimes have agonizing days meant to torture, but more often, you are here with me - with us - and you try only your hardest. I see you, my dear. I hear you. And I know I don't say it often enough, I love you.

Perhaps you are not what others would call 'real,' but to me you and everything you are is all too real. You who tries so so hard for my sake, and I do see that, as well. For as much as you may tease and taunt, you never try to push anything, and you always are so careful to how you tread, and I cannot appreciate that more. You are the wolf of dirty paws, ready to explore a new trail that is slowly more and more becoming known.

I love you both in such different ways. You are the sun, but in many ways, you are my moon, my love. You are there throughout all, even when she shines so brightly I cannot see you. But you still remain. You are my sun, and my stars, and my moon all at once.

Alvarro, spirit of the sun, I welcome you. Wholly and completely. Any part of me, you are welcome to. Everything that I am is yours. And I invite you in.
