If he had any other choice he would've given anything for his path not to cross with that of another Avenger. He knew just what they thought of him and knew that he belonged in the asylum. But with certain objects making their way into the city he knew that it was only a matter of time before trouble cropped up. And he wanted to make certain he stopped it before that become reality. A certain spy would have more intel than he did, and maybe even had more connections. Most of his were thanks to Jake and Marc wasn't quite ready to use him again. Not after what happened the last time they decided to use his information. So Romanoff was his choice and judging by the way she kept looking at him she wasn't thrilled to see him, too. At least the feelings were mutual. "If you know something tell me so I can stop it before it starts."

The fire alarm is still ringing, echoing off the walls and across the floor littered with a glittering array of broken chandelier pieces. The all clear sounds from the upper floors even as Clint sits back heavily against the formerly ‘very expensive’ table now riddled with enough bullets to make the resale value something more akin, well, kindling. Glancing over, however, he frowns as he gives Natasha a once over, surprised written in the crease of his brow.

"God damn it, Romanoff, this is why I have visiting hours. This is how you get shot." Maria eased her finger off the trigger of her Glock, putting it back down on her desk. "What the hell was stopping you from calling ahead?" Now that she was sure there wasn’t a threat, she turned towards the coffee maker. “You want a cup? I’m almost done those papers you asked for. Still wondering why you want a Swiss bank ID, but hey. None of my business. Should be ready by lunch tomorrow, so you can take that off the tab that you’re going to owe me if you want.”

Blinking, Kate stared at Nat for a second, trying to discern if she was being sarcastic or not. Shrugging soon after, she nodded, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re probably right. Nat. But on the other hand, don’t you think we all ended up here because of fate?”

Maybe Kate was just reaching a little, but she felt like if someone had told her as a kid that she’d be an actual Avenger, and working with the Avengers, she would have laughed at them and told them they were crazy. When she was a kid, she was supposed to be a ballerina, and a cellist and a competitive archer. Bringing joy through music and dance mostly. Not a hero. Yet here she was. Actual Avenger, kicking ass and saving the world.

here’s how you make it through the day. don’t worry about the things you can’t do anything about. 

“now, the thing is - sometimes i don’t worry and sometimes it feels like the worry is going to consume me from the inside out. sometimes i’m worried about things that i never used to worry about. it’s real confusing up here,” a light tap to her temple. “just gotta live with it, though. make it through the day even though i’m worrying myself into an early grave.” could that actually happen? she doesn’t want to find out.
