Mini post series about the items on my altar. They've been accumulated over time and are definitely NOT necessities for all witches, pagans, or practitioners. However they may give you some inspiration or ideas on what to test out and add to your own altar.

If you love aesthetic altars on Pinterest and Tumblr, then you might want to make one of your own. But how do you erect pia pretty altar that’s still functional? This blog post should help.

Here are some tips:

Determine your altar’s function. What will you do at this altar? Will you be writing, lighting candles, or giving offerings? Knowing the function will encourage you to include must-have items first.

Sort through what you already have before going out and buying new items. You might be surprised by what works with the altar’s purpose.

Divide your stuff into three piles: “must-haves” for essentials, “maybes” for items that are optional, and “no’s” for items that are not appropriate for this particular altar.

Establish symmetry. On each side of the altar, place two items of similar heights (such as statues). It’ll look put-together that way.

Arrange the largest items first, such as books, statues, mirrors, and large candles. Remember to focus on the “must haves!”

Include items of varying heights. If you need more height, stack items on top of books or boxes.

Fill in the gaps with smaller items.

I’ve had this happen so many times. Someone who isn’t well-versed in the area of witchcraft coming into my room, seeing my altar items, and immediately grabbing them and asking what they are. DON’T DO THIS. Energy is a powerful thing, and whether you believe in it or not, the witch 100% does. Touching their altar items without permission puts your unwanted energy into their items and they now have to completely cleanse the item and recharge its energy.

Not only that, but it’s generally disrespectful to go around touching people’s things without permission, regardless of whether or not they are altar items.

TLDR; Be respectful, don’t touch random things in other people’s houses. Especially that of a witch.

I'm not sure where to begin here. I'm somewhat emotional about these. Whether you create one rune, or a set of them, any of you who have created them before know it can't be done lightly. It's emotional, and empowering, and they bring with them emotions and sensations I can't explain. I first saw acorn runes in a post by @heathens_hall on Instagram and instantly loved the idea. The acorns were cleaned, smoke cleansed, and painted the other night.

This particular set is a gift/offering for Loki and will remain on one of Our altars. As soon as I placed the bowl on the altar, a warm, tingling energy shot through me. Yes! Offering accepted!

First of all, don't let anyone tell you what your altar should look like, this is a personal thing and it's your reflection.

Your altar it's going to depend on what are your beliefs, a pagan altar is going to be slightly different of a wiccan or eclectic altar.

Things that you should have.

Representation of Fire (candle, atame,etc)

Representation of Earth (sea salt,herbs,etc)

Representation of air (leafs, incense holder,etc)

Representation of water (a recipient to hold your water,sea shells,etc)

Energetic stones

A cauldron (or anything where you can put burning stuff when you perform any spell where you need to burn something)

If you are a wiccan or a witch that believes in gods, you want to have a representation of the goddes and the god or whatever you believe in. You can also use a offering bowl for the offerings you are going to give the gods when you perform a spell or a ritual.

You can also put under your elements an altar cloth, to protect your space and bind all your elements together.

Layout

North: Earth

South: Fire

East: Air

West: Water

This is a basic layout, but feel free to put your elements in the altar how you feel conected with it, that is the most important thing.

Closet witches

If you are a closet witch like me (you are afraid to tell your relatives and family about your beliefs), i recomend to make your altar simpler, so you can take it down or put it back when you want/need.
