the continuous theme of ice and heat in hometown cha cha cha is so interesting like you have the superficial aspect of hyejin being regarded as an "ice queen" at first in the community and by her college friends and then the director shows specific scenes of her and dusik becoming closer while something melts in their surroundings.
take the scene in episode 3 where hyejin and dusik eat ice cream while waiting for the lights to come back on and have a moment where he's his most open by telling her about his aversion to living beings in his house (one of the few actually spoken introspections into his character we've gotten yet) and then simultaneously comparing her to a spiky hedgehog and apologizing for misjudging her. while in the background of all of this is her ice cream melting so we can get this final shot of the scene with him showing her an act of care by giving her a napkin to catch her melted ice cream.
then in episode 4 we have hyejin comparing her and dusik to penguins and polar bears from opposite poles to show how different she thinks they are but he goes to say, "they're both from freezing climates though" emphasizing their similarities to each other in the way they keep this veneer of protection around themselves, even as they wear it differently. then, after hyejin's emotional story about her mother she goes on to complain about how hot her face is from the alcohol and dusik shows another act of care by holding his cold hands to her face
and we have him say this definitive line
and then get a shot of the ice melting in the background as the two get closer
these two people who have experienced loss at such a young age and have built these "icy" and guarded exteriors around themselves in order to protect their hearts can't help, but start to melt as soon as they're together and experiencing the "heat" of real vulnerability and human connection.
