The last bits of sunlight were disappearing from over the tops of Chicago's skyscrapers, the sky painted a deep purple with bright streaks interrupting the full transition to evening. Cassidy usually loved this time of day, right before the chaos of the night started, when everything and everyone would be bathed in darkness. The weather had cooled just slightly so that it was comfortable be outside at night enjoying the last bits of summer as it slipped away. The city, however, was not something that could truly be enjoyed at the moment. The curfew was still in effect and Cass had now run into a problem - the clock on the home screen of her phone had just changed to 9:00 PM.
"Dammit," she muttered to herself as she slipped the device into the back pocket of her shorts, surveying the area. Was she closer to the compound or Ismael's? About equidistant... Which should she choose? She had to make a decision quickly, considering all of Chicago's citizens were supposed to be inside by now. Cass ducked around a corner when a police car approached, hiding in the shadows to avoid the red and blue lights. The smallest bit of panic began to rise in her chest - any normal person would probably get a citation and be instructed to get home, but Cassidy couldn't afford a run-in with the police. She had fabricated forms of ID but just like at the hospital, she wasn't confident enough that she could escape their clutches without being discovered.
