The Night Before ALMUN, by Katherine Kelley
Twas the night before ALMUN and all through the state Not a delegate was stirring or staying up late. Position papers and speeches had been written with care, In hopes that golden gavels would soon be theirs. IRC-ers were nestled in RoHo and Prez, Making cookies and MUN-grams and missing their beds. Becca with her flour and Alexis with her puns, Had worked there for hours to make one hundred plus one. When out on the quad there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my packet-stuffing to see what was the matter. Away to Lloyd hall I flew in a hurry, Tore open the doors and was instantly worried. The Secretariat they ran errands they could not forget. Olivia, Mollie, Jenny. Jamie, Wren and Brett. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a young man named Kyle, who our club holds so dear. With a crazy-tired look and a strong cup of coffee, I knew it a moment he must be SG. More rapid than eagles his committees they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! “Now DISEC! Now, SOCHUM! Now, IPC, Crisis! On, SPECPOL! On, SC! On Staffers, and sponsors! Write your resolutions! Answer your call! Now debate away! Debate away! Debate away all! The chairs began stressing, the speaker prepared. And defy Kyle’s command, no one so dared The gavels: they quivered, the cookies: they baked. The Fellows even seemed to catch Kyle’s haste. He was dressed in WaBa, from this head to his foot, And his clothes were all shiny from dry cleaning’s look. A bundle of papers he had flung on his back, And he looked like a maniac, stressed out to the max. But he sprang to his work, to his team gave a whistle, And away the conference flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, as he ran out of sight, “Happy ALMUN to all, and to all a good-night!”
