Happy Pride
cappuccino and roguefort have the possibility for an interesting dynamic because the former is one stepped removed from the latter in the physical process of putting them under; but like with langue de chat, roguefort is always one step of cappuccino because he’s so straightforward and jaded by the society he performs for. Think about it: he’s an almost middle aged guy (lets say early 40s?) who is looking down the barrel of an heavy, illustrious career that has given him nothing but work and sleepless nights which have taken a tremendous toll on his physical health. His sense of justice is what sharpens his wit, what forms the blade upon which his robes were cut from, and that’s his greatest weakness. He, unlike Almond, who despite being overwhelmed with work has a life outside of it in his daughter, Cappuccino is nothing but. He’s the piles of paper littering his office, the endless amount of caffeine pouring into his bloodstream; he’s thrown away a stable, healthy and clean background for gritty, grimy career which involves him screaming passionately and emotionally at every single opportunity, showing his cards only when necessary and if he doesn’t have any, he makes them. That’s what a prosecutor does, a good prosecutor anyways, and he’s the best, isn’t he?
That’s why Roguefort will always get the best of him. Cappuccino thinks ahead, but he believes in the system he serves too much to recognize that Roguefort already knows how to circumvent all of it. He believes too much in the law and in his own symbolic and judicial power, which don’t exist to them. They never have, and they never will—Roguefort wasn’t compensated for whatever disaster befell their family, and as far as the law concerned they barely exist except as their alternate persona. Cappuccino can’t touch them, he can’t within the confines of all he believes in, the only thing he believes in almost. Who are you when your robes come off, when you sleep at night? Is your relationship with Almond where he wants you to be—weren’t you supposed to get married three years ago? Did you plan it on the vacation you’re taking soon, or are you staying in separate hotel rooms again?
Nobody is better at playing pretend than Roguefort, especially not a prosecutor who can’t even lie to himself that well.
the moment i realized how well Almond gets along with coffee cookies I knew i had to draw something
