I love how companies in our Ummah are building apps and in turn raising awareness about working with people in our beautiful Deen. Spring Semester is Finished!
Well, well, well.... my study abroad program with ISA in Meknes, Morocco finally came to an end this past week. May 3rd to be exactly. There were certainly many ups and downs to the semester, and I am being completely honest when I admit that I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I flew to Morocco to study for a semester. I came to progress in my studies of the Arabic language, and got so much more. I made friends from all over the United States, friends from Morocco, friends from all over the world at the different international hostels I have stayed in, learned the beginning stages of French (it's unavoidable in Morocco), gotten to see some of the most beautiful places in the world, learned an amazing amount about Islamic societies worldwide, and of course improved in my Arabic.
There was a while that I felt so frustrated in my Arabic studies while in Morocco, but even just a few days after the semester having ended I am starting to feel really positively about the whole experience. In the midst of everything I couldn't see my progress, but I am starting to now (now that I'm not surrounded by it anymore, weird how that worked). I certainly need a lot of work in all aspects regarding grammar, but I know I've made improvements in my speaking, even if only small ones. Before the semester even though I had been studying for a year and a half, speaking with native speakers terrified me! Now all i want to do is talk to as many people as I can in Arabic, and I'm comfortable with falling all over myself and my words if I have to, because at least I'm speaking. Coming back to America later in the month I am really excited about that. I hope to volunteer in Dearborn (Michigan) this summer while visiting my parents and get to put my Arabic through some healthy practice.
