Can tools used in witchcraft be art supplies? Like sewing needles, pencils, paint brushes, etc?
How do you cleanse and charge tools for witchcraft?
Absolutely! The amount of tools and supplies for my craft that I have gotten from hobby shops and craft stores is ASTOUNDING. I think a good 75% of my initial witch's toolkit came from Michaels and the local thrift store, barring the few pieces I was able to afford at an actual occult shop.
Basically, if you can think of a use for a thing in your magical practice, it can be put to use. If you're using it as a component in a spell or a tool to create a magical object, then it counts. It's actually a fun thought exercise / skillbuilder, to look at your available art supplies and imagine what magical uses they could be put to.
As for cleansing and charging, this is going to sound like anathema to some but....I don't always do it. If an item is going to be put to a dedicated Witchcraft Only use, then I'll probably cleanse it with moonlight (left on a windowsill overnight), incense smoke, and breath (symbolically blowing away extant energy signatures and replacing them with my own). To charge things, I usually just hold them in my hands and focus on imbuing them with my own energy and the purpose I set for them. If it's just going to be A Tool To Make Stuff With (i.e. tweezers for putting stuff in charm bottles), I won't bother.
If I purchase something that's meant to be a tool or component and it doesn't come from an occult shop, I consider it a blank slate when it comes to me. Even for components which are going to become part of enchanted objects or physical representations of spells, I don't bother cleansing or charging them until the object is completed. Less spoons to do it all at once rather than piecemeal, you see.
Personally, I think certain parts of the witchcraft community are overly preoccupied with the idea of cleansing everything, as if negativity or "bad vibes" build up so quickly and to such dangerous levels that anything not personally scrubbed and blessed by a witch is bound to cause trouble. To me, it smacks of the same scare tactics that tell witches any spell not done from perfect motivations and with perfect execution is bound to backfire and destroy their life. It's stuff that's maybe presented as a safety precaution, but it's really just gatekeeping with extra steps. (And what's worse is it's born out of anti-witchcraft / anti-pagan propaganda, so there's that.)
So yeah, go ahead and use your art supplies for witchcraft, there is absolutely nothing that can stop you, and the decision whether to cleanse/charge them is entirely up to you.
