my pastor was speaking recently about the difference between a communal covenant and a social contract. what it made me consider is the idea of feeling owed (based on laws or an assumption of what it means to be part of a society) vs. the idea of wanting to make a contribution, maybe even doing something less advantageous to yourself for the greater good. post election, as my head spins, i'm thinking a lot about what motivates us to want to put some good into the world, to create a very real sense of community. # it's strange, but I think we understand that in roses. some days we are running for ourselves and other days, or even moments in a race, we are running for each other. we put in hard work for the sake of our teammates as much as for ourselves, knowing we are all growing together. i look around at the squad, the diversity, the will power, the hard work and I do think about the beloved community. it's going to be rough being away from these folks for a bit, but I know that all of our collective life experiences make us stronger. and I'm so glad that the lessons i'm learning through running can help me be a better member of the global community, a better global citizen, a better human, a better friend. #blackrosesnyc #allwegotisallwegot #nyrrxcteamchamps 🏅✨ #thebelovedcommunity (at Van Cortlandt Park)
