Internet is not the problem. Internet can be a positive tool. But it were created before we teach ourselves the right use of it. How to use it ethically and with basic moral or dedicate to it a healthy amount of time. Social Media applications have taken the control of us. They were created, probably, with a good meaning and to offer plenty of tools “all in one”. But any rules? Is there any…

Domenick Bailey - Feb. 4th Reflection
I must admit: I feel pretty good coming off of Exercise 1. Being able to see the growth and development of my work from the early sketching stages, to rough mockups, to the finished product has been extremely encouraging. The experience I acquired in the struggle to gain a working knowledge of Illustrator and tap into my design mindset will undoubtedly serve me well not only throughout the rest of the semester, but well beyond that as well.
My favorite reading from this week was Kees Dorst’s “The core of ‘design thinking’ and its application.” From the beginning I resonated with his position that due to design thinking’s recent popularity, professional, business, and management communities are attempting to leverage it in somewhat of a utilitarian manner that oversimplifies the subject at hand, and ultimately misses out on the multiple perspectives and rich pictures that true design thinking aims to elicit. I believe that this should come as no surprise. I would argue (I could be wrong) that in many instances in design thinking, profit and the bottom line are not necessarily at the forefront of thinkers’ minds. However, in business, professional, and management communities, that is almost certainly the case. This could explain the unwillingness to create new frames and view design problems from different perspectives, since those different perspectives likely might be more costly than the ones they are currently operating under. Dorst eloquently touches on this point in his fifth section where he writes, “Organisations often initially react in a way that requires the least effort and fewest resources: they set out in a conventional problem solving manner.” This illustrates why the intersection and incorporation of design thinking into areas of business and management has to be one of compromise, and one that is willing to invest in the process just as much as the product if design thinking is to truly be maximized to its fullest potential.
Lastly, I plan on utilizing my collage to depict what it’s like to be Black at a PWI. The thoughts, experiences, and everything extra outside of education that goes into the college journey that other students do not have to contend with. I’m thinking about using the silhouette of a brain and possibly filling that in with different images, but I definitely want to expand on that to make it more meaningful, creative, and ultimately more powerful. I plan on incorporating important historical figures to the Black education movement such as Ruby Bridges, Oliver Brown, and other important pioneers.
