((also ¿ with spike and cass))
Things changed, though. Now when he slept he was gambling with himself, balancing between the line of getting a semi-peaceful night's sleep and being shaken awake by sudden sobs and screams as sweat clung to his skin. Tonight was a night he lost that gamble.
His eyes opened and he found himself trapped, tied down and bloody not too far from an unconscious man he hadn't seen for far too long. He struggled to move, the burning pain of a thousand stinging needles jabbing at every inch of his flesh forcing him into a paralysed state. The room reeked of blood and chemicals and god only knew what else, and he felt the bile rise in his throat as the familiar stench filled his nostrils. With heaving breaths his panicked eyes darted around the room.Â
Cass. Cass. Where is Cass.Â
He needed to see her, he needed to make sure she was alright.
Sometimes he wished he'd never saw her there beneath the scalpels and various tools of the foul monsters that had abducted them. The sheer look of pain and terror on her face as they tampered with her very being, accompanied by the shrieks and cries for help that he so desperately wanted to answer, but couldn't, rattled his insides and forced tears to his eyes. He felt an unfathomable rage build up in the pit of his stomach and slowly rise to his lungs, forcing it's way out of his mouth in the form of a desperate plea. "No, please, leave her alone!" Of course they wouldn't listen to him. They didn't even acknowledge him at that point. They were too busy with their experiments.
A final 'No!' escaped his lips, and accompanied him still as he woke up, screaming at the darkness of their small apartment bedroom. His entire body shook as he sat up and rushed out of the room and into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him as he attempted- and failed- to keep his 'before bed snack' down. Spike sat knelt over the toilet, his face partially hidden by the bowl, and simply sobbed.Â
No matter how hard he tried, no matter how desperately he wanted to, he couldn't forget her cries. The ones he couldn't soothe.
