"Poison! Poison!" The store owner runs over frantic, and returns with a relieved "they wanted poison." The slightest mis-cut of the pufferfish could kill you. So you can imagine the anxiety that led up to the first bite of this seemingly harmless crispy coated pufferfish. Reassured that they've been in business for over 20 years, I dipped the little nugget-on-a-diet into the sauce and took a chance, because yolo. The first to make contact was an uneven, slightly rough, but buttery flakey exterior, tinged with a slight prickle of savory soy. So tender that my tongue could handle the eating independent of my molars, I explored through the layer of fried to the inner plush of fish. Perhaps the puffing adds an aeration to make the meat soft enough to swallow whole.
