Did you know that pearls, while created in water, shouldn’t be submerged in water when worn as jewelry? Why, you might ask? Well, in many rings, earrings, pendants, brooches and even some bracelets, the pearls are attached to a post, via a small hole that’s been drilled into the pearl. The pearl is then further secured onto the post with.... glue. Glue + 💧 = 🚫 For strands of pearls, they are most often strung on silk, which also will degrade with exposure to water. You know what your pearls DO like? The oils from your skin. It helps to keep them supple and from cracking.
