Back in the Vampire Diaries days, Ian Somerhalder gave some interview where he talks about asking out a co-worker who turned him down and "it was the right choice" and the rumor was that it was Kat Graham. Which made sense with how affectionate and obsessed with her he was.
Jeremy and Ayo always had the same vibe for me. They clicked pretty immediately, had nothing but great things to say about each other, and had very visible chemistry - but it's inherently messy because that chemistry was when he was still married. And then he got divorced at some point and jumped into like 3 other relationships. Ayo had her own relationships going on. Assuming their periods of singledom overlapped (...i mean, even if they didn't), I could see Jeremy making a move because clearly, he has no hang ups about dating co-stars and I could see Ayo turning him down based off everything she's said about dating co-stars and how she generally tries to keep her romantic life private vs Mr Pap Walk.
And if that were all true, I feel like this weird turn around makes more sense if they went from having a Thing, officially or not, and then he started dating their mutual co-worker and her friend. Because the awkwardness they are radiating feels like too much for just your former best work friend.
