AKA My first OC ever

This day @sambeart needed some furries and anthro to draw and I tried to quickly re-design my first ever OC - Jay/Jayree/Gerardine/IDK how to call her now.

She was first drawn by me when my 5-year-old self thought that Jerry (yes, the one from Tom&Jerry) was a female (I had the same misconception about Tweety) and drew many new chapters (that were just a ripp-off other’s shows premise) of Looney Tunes and Tom&Jerry crossover AU (yes, I did it). So Jayree (her name after I recognized that Jerry was a guy, yes, the name still makes me cringe) was main hero alongside genderbent Tweety, Tom, Sylvester, Coyote, Roadrunner, Daffy, Bugs, Lola and others (I didn’t grew out of having way too many characters to draw).

Since her first appearance took place in my childhood (90s and early 2000s) I decided that for her redesign, I’d put her in clothes from that era mainly focusing on 2000-2003 fashion. She’s still a WIP (especially in traits department, since she was such a Mary-Sue) but I am willing to come back to her.

Jay/Jayree/Gerardine/IDK how to call her now belongs to me.

Some more self-portrait. This time me being more happy with life. I wish I own earrings and shawl as those. T-T I liked the concept and sketch so much that I needed to colour an refine it. I used teal, peach and purple which are my favourite colours.

This is by far my best attempt at soft pastels. I love the effect and semi-smooth gradient but the mess is not worth it. :/

Plus I did some #ArtMythBusting around soft pastels too ignite some love for them but with little to no success. Basically:

1. Soft pastels are super messy. You’ll get powder everywhere. No joke.

2. Shaving off some powder and laying it with a dry brush is alright for making glow or blushing effect. But is tedious when you want to cover the whole pic with this. Stick will be better for this task and the colours will be more saturated.

3. Diluting the pastel powder with water or applying powder with damp/wet brush gives semi-watercolour effect, but the powder doesn’t like being mixed with water and gives the chalky effect (much like in very cheap watercolours pans for kids). It is much cleaner, though.

Pattern Today’s challenge is called pattern! You can create your own pattern, if you love donuts make a donut pattern, if you love foxes make a fox pattern! or You can use patterns to create a piece, if you do traditional art maybe use design paper for some visual interest, and when you work digitally you can work with layers to use a design for part of your drawing!

Stream art - Spooky Scary Eviction

Second part of  @sambeart request - cartoony house and a skeleton jumping from it. I thought about the different idea: a sentient haunted house that many monsters live it evicting with force (in a cartoon manner) a skeleton that is not spooky enough to live there.

I’ll start with things that I am happy about: 3 point perspective, the house and its spooky surroundings (tree, fence, bats), the colours and mood, lighting, humorous concept.

Things I am NOT happy about: skeleton. I made way too many anatomical errors (flat ribcage) and I didn’t know how to show that the skeleton is not scary (hence the clown rainbow afro IDk what to give him(?)). And my sis says it looks like walking on 4 in front of the house than being in air literally kicked out.
