I am rereading the âAlien Chroniclesâ trilogy (again), and my goodness, the writing is so good. I always slightly forget how engaging it is, and itâs always a treat. Deborah Chester writes in a way that makes you feel like youâre right there, experiencing it all yourself. Colors, textures, and scents are all described with such vivid terms.
I didnât realize how much her style influenced me until when I went back to work on Abeyance, chapter 3. I always wanted to craft such vivid imagery when I wrote, and Iâm so grateful I was able to experience that trilogy when I did, and can continue to do so for years to come.
Back at it again with Amprisâ design.Â

A commission of characters from the Lucasfilms âAlien Chroniclesâ series.  Way back when the books were first released some artwork of the characters was done by Terryl Whitlatch.  I like a lot of her work, but I honestly thought her designs were kind of ugly.  Like sheâd been told to make the characters as unappealing as possible. I was commissioned by another fan of the books to try my hand at the characters, which was a lot of fun to work on.  I really wished theyâd continued the series... *sigh*

A couple of bust doodles of Elrabin, from Lucasfilmâs Alien Chronicles.Â
I stuck pretty close to Terryl Whitlatchâs sketches, instead of her finished painting of him. As much as I like the finished portrait on the back of the second book, her sketches feel more like him.
I decided to post her sketches along with mine for comparisonâs sake since they are no longer available online, to my surprise and disappointment. :( Â
I still really, really love this painting of one of the Samparese gladiatrices from Alien Chronicles despite the mistakes I see in it now.
I kind of squee whenever someone draws snaky-looking Viis.
