Honk. Honk.
Beep. Beep.
MAMAAAA!
The brunette groaned as she felt the little hands shaking her body, his little form sitting over the soft green blanket over her legs. “Mama! It’s sno-sno-snoweeing outside!” The voice of the three almost four year old exclaimed as she bit her lip, her face in the pillow as she responded with a purposeful muffled, “I think you are imagining things, Jamie. I can’t see anything.” It had been about a month since the hazel-eyed woman and her blue eyed little boy moved from the only home he knew, all the way to the bustling city of New York City where she was finishing her residency. He had been apprehensive at first when she first told him, but the promise of lights and snow that they could – and I quote “Make an Olaf,” was all the temptation that James Reese Blake needed.
Counting to three in her head slowly, the rocking and shaking of her body continued as that sweet little voice called out again, “Tats cause you close your eyes! Mama, come on! Wakey, Wak---eeeeeee” he squealed as Haley grabbed him around his little waist with a playful-growl, throwing him against her soft pillows while she began tickling him mercilessly. The sound of their giggles and laughter filling the room as she leaned and started kissing his little chubby face all over, her heart brimming with love. It was moments like these that she lived for and cherished the most. Who would of guessed that despite all the craziness in her life, and mistakes she made in her life that she would still have this one precious little gift. Pushing the hair out of his face she smiled taking her boy in her arms as she slowly maneuvered the two out of bed. “Let’s go see the snow,” she nuzzled his neck, making him giggle as he began talking once more, “May- may - maybe, Charlie be outside!”
Shaking her head at his enthusiasm, Haley nodded, listening with avid attention as she got him ready to go outside the building. Charlotte, or rather Charlie, was the little girl that lived the floor below them and went to the same pre-school as James. Haley had met the little girl’s baby sitter the past few times she had picked him up after the end of the day. According to both little ones, Charlie’s mom worked morning and late night shifts cause of someone “not knowing the difference between a shot and a mug – the smile widening on Haley’s lips as she remembered with amusement how the two then continued to ply both her and Kelsey, the baby-sitter, about what a shot was. Feeling the chubby little fingers grabbing her own, she allowed her boy to pull her outside as fast as his little feet could allow with the sounds of “Hurry, Hurry Mama!!” filling the corridor.
Walking down the flight of stairs, James, who wasn’t looking where he was going, determination shining in his eyes like those of his father’s sparkling a bright blue, turned the corner, running Haley right into that of another woman. The both collided with a thud, losing balance and landed on the floor. Putting a hand to her head she groaned, much like she did this morning, “Ohhhhhh… you are in trrrrrrouuuble,” she thought she heard the little melodic voice of Charlie child whisper, which means speak as loud as she could, at Jamie.
“No I’m not.”
“Yes you are.”
“I SAID I AM NOT!”
“I SAID YOU ARE!”
“CHARLOTTE FAITH NEWMAN!” “JAMES REESE BLAKE!” the two mothers exclaimed simultaneously - - - only to stop when they recognized the other’s voice, Haley’s head turning quickly to her right, her head still pounding as her eyes widened in shock and surprise. “Alex?”
“Haley?” the redhead’s voice filled with her own shock and disbelief as the two just stared at each other, not know what to do next when the front door of the apartment complex opened up and Kit, Haley’s little sister strolled in, stopping in her tracks. Glancing between the kids and the two adults sprawled on the floor before asking, “Did you two squirts go bowling for adults without me?” humor coating her voice, as Haley’s eyes went back to the woman who used to be one of her dearest friends before Haley fucked it up. Letting out a sigh with a little, “shit” muttered under her breath.
