Ellen's Guide to Making Shit Up About European Paintings
El Greco: mannerism, 1580-1615. had a really long name, associated with the Counter Reformation (Catholics saying nooooo don't leave us). associate him with representations of Jesus. Also associate him with countertops. I don't know what mannerism is, so pretend it's prioritizing the emotion of the subject. or maybe good manners.
Da Vinci: Renaissance, 1480-1520. Really tall. Illuminati, into science, painted some little known works such as the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. associate him with turning away from Christianity, maybe saying something about how Mona Lisa's smirk plus the last supper clearly indicates that mona lisa is a jesus reference and she is smirking that we were all decieved. also associate him with rabbits. if there's a pattern in the painting, bring him up.
Monet: Impressionism, 1880-1925ish. kinda blurry. not to be confused with Manet, but Manet also did impressionism so who cares.
van Eyck: Renaissance, 1420-1440. he's the "if everone, including the woman, looks like putin" artist. associate him with prophecy and communism.
Rubens: Baroque, 1600-1640. Baroque kinda sounds like broke, so associate him with things going wrong.
Artemisia Gentileschi: my favorite
okay, now if the painting isn't by any of these people, just remembe that artists were all influenced by each other. just pick something in the painting and an artist from this list, and make up some bullshit about how they're related, then go off what i told you to associate with that artist.
make everything about christianity, because let's be real pretty much all the european art was about that for quite a while. even if it isn't, make it.
pick a historical event or two in kinda the correct time frame and associate that with the painting
pick one small aspect of the painting and run with it (NOT literally)
