âYour heart is safe with me.â for sparks will fly?
Marley thought rehearsing her lines with Finley was the best idea she had this evening. Until now. For a moment, she allowed herself to believe that this was real. And it wasnât that hard when Finley was looking at her like that. Like Marley meant the world to her.
It had been almost three weeks since the two of them had spent any proper time together. Three weeks since Marley had that talk with Unique, prompting her that maybe her relationship with Finley could be more than platonic. Three weeks of avoiding her roommate, giving excuses like needing more practice since she was announced as the female lead for the upcoming college play. It had been easy since the national robotics championship was around the corner too, and most of Finleyâs time was spent with her club members as well.Â
Knowing she couldnât avoid Finley forever, Marley had suggested running through her lines together before the dress rehearsal the next day instead of their usual movie marathonâ because that meant no cuddling on the couch which in turn meant that Marley wouldnât have to be too awkward around the other girl, right? But she was wrong.Â
In the lengthening silence, Marley could almost hear her pounding heart. This wasnât real, she reminded herself. Before Finley could realise that she was taking too long for her reply, Marley wrapped it up with her last line, âI know.â
Quickly plastering a wide smile on her face when the moment passed between them, Marley pulled her hands from Finleyâs grip. âThanks for rehearsing with me, Fin! I didnât realise it would take this long,â she said before stretching her hands upwards and faking a yawn, âYou know what? I think Iâm gonna call it a night. Um, donât stay up too late, alright? Night!â Before the other girl even had a chance to reply, Marley made a hasty retreat back to her room, knowing sleep wouldnât come easy to her tonight.
