Reposted from @habershamforus Madam C.J. Walker was an entrepreneur, philanthropist and activist. She made her fortune by creating a line of beauty and hair care products for Black women. Walker was considered the wealthiest African-American businesswoman and self-made woman in America at the time of her death in 1919. She and her daughter, AāLelia Walker, were pioneers of philanthropy and activism. In July 2019, at the street naming ceremony for the women at 136th Street & Lenox Avenue in Harlem, great-great granddaughter & biographer AāLelia Bundles told @essence : āAs she became successful, she turned around and helped empower other women to become economically independent, but also impressed upon them that their first duty was to humanity. That then turned into women who were empowered to be a part of the civil rights movement. That sense of needing to do something for your community is part of the seed that I think continues to be planted.ā We celebrate their legacy today and every day. #blackhistorymonth #bhm #madamcjwalker #aleliawalker #wcw #busnesswomen #activist #philanthropist #harlem #ny13 #habershamforcongress #habershamforusforcongress #habershamforus https://www.instagram.com/p/B8NCV1SAdgU/?igshid=1bumdmjr36fib
