I spoke with one man today who was phoning in to assure us that he had not stolen his rental vehicle, he just had to evacuate his town and it was the only way he could get out. He proceeded to tell me that he had been separated from his wife and kids in the mandatory evacuation and couldn’t find them for nearly 8 hours in the midst of all the chaos. On top of that, his place of work burned to the ground, his home burned to the ground, and every memory that they kept in that home were gone. This crushed me. 

While these tragedies are always devastating, this one is hitting me really hard. How is it that these poor people, who have lost virtually everything, can call me with such composure while I sit on the other end of the call fighting back the tears? It’s unbelievable.
