im trying very hard to keep a calm disposition but this makes me so fucking mad as a queer person, you have no idea. closeting is never a choice. nobody stays in the closet because they want to. whatever the reason is for an artist staying in the closet, is a valid one, because closeting actively harms the person in it.

alarrytale is homophobic. saying they only support closeted artists who do it for their preferred reasons is homophobic. artists dont just closet themselves for shits and giggles, its for safety. what you see as a fan is not the full picture. harry and louis dont stay closeted for "sales," they stay closeted for their safety. and yes, their safety includes making sure they dont suicide their careers. job security is part of safety. thats why i closeted myself during job interviews when i lived in a red state, to avoid being discriminated against for my queerness.

i really hate this "i only support you IF" mentality that alarrytale has. they're an asshole for thinking its okay to dangle support over HLs heads because they want them to perform a dance of perfect victimhood. it makes me fear for any queer people in their day to day life- if your support for queer people is conditional, its not real support. fix that shit.

this is an intentionally narrowminded view of things. every artist enters the industry a different way. chappell entered as an openly queer woman, her appeal is that she writes about the queer experience. thats part of her public image as well as her true self. it works in her favour. but that is not HLs experience.

harry and louis entered the industry through a reality TV show that is known for strategically closeting and abusing its contestants, in 2010 no less. they also entered the industry in a BOYBAND, historically VERY heteronormatized and almost always closeting their members, ESPECIALLY for boybands as famous as 1D. the year and way in which HL entered the music industry cannot be overlooked in these discussions. they werent given the same initial freedoms as artists like billie or chappell, and HL have both stayed stuck under Sony in some capacity for the past 15 years.

the fact theyre both still under the same company is also very important. dont overlook that. just because theyre not under syco anymore doesnt mean syco's daddy doesnt still own both of them.

So ALarryFreak genuinely thinks that a pap would travel all the way from the UK to Tokyo for a photoshoot and be happy with photos that don't even show Taylor Russell's face. Such a fucking idiot. The photos either have other people in the frame or are of their backs. No publication has bought them.
